It seems IGN lied. They said it would be demoed. This is an interview and showing the E3 trailer.

yeah, still pretty cool though. so you get run out of Empire City by the beast, go to the new city to power up. I wonder if you return to Empire City at the end of the game to take on the Beast or if that is inFamous 3?

So is PSN+ supposed to get a trial of inFamous or iF2? I wouldn't mind either way, but I suppose it would be cooler if it was iF2.

          IGN Preview

Cole runs around with this two-pronged cattle prod that he charges with electricity and slams into bad guys. With a tap of Triangle, Cole can set off "ultra moves" where he shoves the prod around someone's neck and spins around the foe or pulls off a leg sweep before hauling off on the enemy with a massive cattle prod swing. He can glide further and faster, he can slide a long walls while tethering himself to pipes with electricity, and he can pull off insane vortexes (electricity tornadoes) that suck up enemies and parts of the environment.
Now that we've busted out of Empire City, it's clear that Cole isn't the only super-being in the world. Long before Cole saunters into town, New Marais is plagued by "monsters," these beings that resemble the Necromorphs from Dead Space with their talon-like arms, ash-gray skin and split-open mouths.

I know feelings are mixed about Cole's new look and voice, but damn does this game visually look fantastic, and it sounds like it plays even better.

It's nice to read the PS3 still has untapped potential but after this long shouldn't devs know how to take advantage by now? Sony needs to make their consoles simpler to program for next time.

First gameplay footage to debut this Friday on GTTV.

                ...

The New Abilities Of Cole MacGrath

                New Melee Combat

While the first game did include melee attacks, many players found them too basic and stuck to Cole's electric powers. With Infamous 2, Sucker Punch is making melee far more useful, and (more importantly) more fun. Close-quarters skirmishes will be presented with a more dynamic camera that brings you closer to the action, and you'll have at least one new toy to play with. Your buddy Zeke acts as a sort of low-rent Q from the Bond films, supplying you with new equipment. One such invention is what Sucker Punch described to us as the "tuning fork" (not its final name). It extends Cole's natural electric current via the use of two parallel metal pipes. Getting hit in the skull with a metal pole is rough enough, but Infamous 2 makes it even more brutal thanks to your protagonist's power.

                Enhanced Navigation

One of the many great things the first Infamous did was present an open world that was a blast to get around in, despite its lack of vehicles. Gliding through the air and zipping across power lines at inhuman speeds was a blast, making exploration something to look forward to instead of a chore. Infamous 2 takes that even further by allowing Cole to zip alongside buildings both horizontally and vertically. Let's say a highrise apartment building has a metal pipe that runs down its entire side. You can position yourself at the bottom and use an induction grind (placeholder term) to fly to the top without having to slowly climb to the roof. The same concept applies to buildings with metal siding. In addition to the new electricity-based travel options, Cole's parkour animations have been expanded upon and enhanced.

                Ionic Vortex

Ok, so it's a tornado. However, it's also a lightning tornado, so we'll give a pass to its fancy name. This brutal ability can cause chaos to your surroundings, enemies, and anything else that is unfortunate enough to get in the way. It seems to be on par with the lightning storm's power from the first game, so we're expecting to see it appear late in the story. We got to see a glimpse of it in action as Cole summoned the ionic vortex to handily dispatch of a pesky attack helicopter.

                Smaller Tweaks

While electric pipes and lightning tornadoes are pretty sweet, Sucker Punch is making several subtle tweaks to improve how you use your powers. One such example is the way you'll see the action while performing Cole's basic lightning strike. He used his right hand in the original, which took up a small portion of your view. This time around, he'll be blasting foes from the left, allowing for a larger view of the action. Proving that he's somewhat ambidextrous, he'll now be able to shoot the second part of a one-two lightning strike utilizing his right hand.

While these are the abilities we've seen so far, Sucker Punch still has plenty of tricks up their sleeves. Tearing through Empire City with the original Cole was a blast, and it's looking like Infamous 2 will give fans even more of what they loved.

                From Arstechnica Preview

You'll start the game with a wide range of abilities learned during Cole's time in Empire City, drastically improving the feeling of actually being a superhero rather than going through the obligatory power strip-down that's become so common in most games. Fox said over the course of the game Cole will only gain more powers, becoming a "a really super superhero," which we feel can only be a good thing.

This all sounds fantastic. Although, I do have to ask... does this writer not realize you could switch hands in the first game???

That's pretty impressive, but I just hope this game doesn't take the Uncharted 2 route and become too "scripted" where we have less involvement in our actions and it is too linear for our own good.

Lol well I thought U2 was way better than the first, so if this game shows that type of improvement I'm fine. Besides, Uncharted should be linear, it's essentially an interactive movie... I never really understood that complaint.

I understand linearity, though I feel there are just too many times during the actual game where the scripts are definitely overtaking the user-controlled portions. Think of the GTA IV missions where you are chasing somebody in a car and some vehicles and damages happen to obstruct you at just the right time as you are trying to track the culprit down, or you empty half a dozen clips unto him before you realize he is receiving no damage. This becomes quite the nuisance, kind of like in Uncharted 2 when you need to take down those big, armored guys and shooting them isn't actually doing anything.

Uncharted and inFamous are so different that I don't think inFamous could follow that linear route too much.

This has been debated quite a bit on the UC2 thread but I'll agree with Blazer. UC2 went too far in the linearity. I like linearity but it was just too obvious at times. It was definitely more linear than the first game imo. An example would be the boss fight on the train. You could shoot him 10 times with a shotgun to no effect - you HAD to punch him to beat him. The opening train sequence had no risk. Animations constantly took over to move you out of the way and where the game wanted you to go.

I really liked that video. I loved how fast you could move around. The glide ability seems faster and the melee stick looked cool. I wonder if they will have GOW like quick sequences?
