I'd like to add Superman 64. You definitely need to play one of the worst games ever before you die. Plus it's Superman.

Contra WITHOUT using the infamous code. That takes some serious cajones.

In my prime NES playing days (which was like... 20 years ago), I was able to beat the original Contra without dying once. I know, "prove it"... but alas, I cannot. You'll just have to take my word for it.

The Legend of Zelda: NES

I remember beating that game for the first time. It was the 3rd NES game I beat following Super Mario Bros and Contra. After that was Kid Icarus and Metroid. Man, those were good times.

Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link. Always liked this one more than the original, and I thought it was more difficult.

Legend of Zelda Ccarina of Time. The game was phenomenal, it wasn't really short like games are today. It was fairly difficult, some puzzles were mind boggling, and just a great ending.

Ditto. I never thought the game was hard to begin with. I have this memory of the game being fairly easy - but everyone seems to remember otherwise. Guess I was just good at the game.

I'll second Demon's Souls.

If you finish it you can feel proud to be a gamer and not a whinger (like I first was when trying this game) by saying it's too difficult.

And for pure laughs I will say City of the Lost Children. Here we have a game that everyone thought was based on the classic point and click adventure games, that would surely take weeks to explore and grind through the puzzles... yet it could be completed from start to finish in about 10-15 minutes, no joke.
