    me too!

I'm excited that there's going to be a single player campaign, again. I know the multi player is what made Socom, but the lack of a single player in Confrontation still sucked pretty bad. Don't get me wrong. I'm one of those who really liked Confrontation and didn't bitch about it because it wasn't Socom 2.. I just like the campaign

It's not a run-and-gun FPS. Battlefield is much better about this, but not quite on the same level as SOCOM.
Yea you definitely did not play Socom 1 and/or 2 online. Even for garbage *** 3 this wasn't true. Maybe you're talking about offline?

        Re: SOCOM 4

Socom 1&2, the two games that defined the series were all about running and gunning online. It was very tactical but it wasn't slow paced at all depending on how you played. The game was extremely unfriendly to noobs and people that did not have video game skills. It was incredibly addictive and fun. Obviously they're going to go completely away from their roots because now a days every shooter has to tout realism or they think they won't sell a lick. I expect this game to be a complete departure from what it used to be which isn't bad necessarily.

Whatever they do and whatever direction they decide to take this in, hopefully its good. I honestly have my doubts. MAG wasn't all that to me and Zippers last Socom game was garbage. So we'll see.

Depends on what you played. If it wasn't respawn, you played like it counted.

I suppose it really just depends on the maps. Obviously on Frostfire, you play for five minute rounds or less. But take a map like Fox Hunt, and you really need to work your way around the map the correct way or coordinate with people to get your kills.

Most people did not play respawn consistently. It was something to mess around with. The non-respawn modes were easily the most popular. Everyone played like it counted. The way of play you're describing did not really exist on Socom online. There was a ton of communication but it wasn't slow paced tactical gameplay and you definitely did not have to coordinate with anyone for your kills. If you knew where to go and had great gun skills you could get to where the entire opposing team is within seconds on any map and kill half of them or more on your own if you were good enough. Rounds could be over lightning quick if one of the teams was not good. Every map one or both teams could have one to several people rushing. Every map started the same way, everyone ran up and threw every grenade they had towards whatever area they did not want the opposing team to take control of.

Team work was fine but if individually you were not good then you were a detriment. You had to have the ability to win gun fights on your own to just be decent at the game.

The fact is that Socom 1 and 2 online was very run and gun and unrealistic. It was generally fast paced and your success as a team basically broke down to how each of you did in individual gunfights and how smart you were as a player. Also the beginning round grenade salvo had a lot to do with who won as well.

To me its obvious this game is going to completely abandon those roots. It might turn out well but it most likely won't. Every shooter is going down the same path now. Realism, modern settihg, noob friendly. The first and last parts are what is lame and hurting the genre for me but it sells so it goes on until people get introduced to another style of play in the genre that catches on.

I don't know, I agree with Blzer. Especially if you spent most of your gametime in clan wars. When you have a random 16 players in the room, then it tends to be people running out in the open and rushing. But when you have 2 clans facing eachother its very much a slow tactical game, especially with escort or extraction.

This. It's a lot more serious knowing that when you die, you'll have to watch the rest of the round. No respawn games are the best.

I think what would hurt Socom now is the huge competition. I've been in the same "clan" for 6 years. We started on Socom 2, played well over 100 wars on Gamebattles, but now there is some new amazing game out every month that people move to. There has yet to be a clan based game as good as socom. I remember matches lasting hours because games would go down to the last round.

One thing I loved about Socom that I have never seen in a game since, when you reloaded you didn't magically push more bullets into your clip. You had 5 clips, you changed clips. Once you changed the 5th times, you were back at clip #1 and it wasn't full.

Whoever made Confrontation could have just remastered Socom 1-2 in HD, fix the hit detection, and sold just as many copies.

Here is a video of the Move controller on SOCOM 4. In a way, this is almost like using a mouse to play this game. The only bad thing: the person playing it, Seth Luisi.(just kidding but many in the SOCOM community don't like him).

Zipper started a weekly podcast series in which they will be talking about Socom 4 and mag.

Some info from the first one for Socom:
Sprint is in the game, right now its mapped to L3
                                No drivable vehicles in MP
                                Cover system in MP
No blind fire in cover system
Density of maps (variety of sizes for MP)
Focus is on infiltrating squad tactics in MP
