Re: SOCOM 4
So let me get this straight... these reviewers give the CoD series 9/9.5's constantly... and they're saying this game is too much like that. Shouldn't that result in higher scores, or are they subconsciously admitting that CoD is overrated? Lol.Comment

Re: SOCOM 4
Well, I see what they're saying. SOCOM is its own breath of fresh air, or at least it used to be. SOCOM stands for Special Operations Command and are highly regarded for their stealth tactics. As much as I didn't play the single player campaign modes in the first games that came out for the PS2, this was exactly what the series portrayed. Even on the smaller maps in SOCOM 1, people did not simply just play a run-and-gun approach, and the game didn't really allow you to either.
You spoke in that game for a reason. After all, you had to wait your turn and push a button to get a word in if you wanted to, so you would only do it if it was worth your time. That would help weed out the nitwits. Snipers seemed to be the only working long-range weapons (I also loved clicking Up on the D-pad to zoom in for it), and were costly if you missed your shot because everyone would pick up on you for as loud as they were. Also increasing what amount of armory you had meant slowing you down considerably. The guns all had an intense amount of recoil (in a realistic manner), night- and thermal- vision were used remarkably, kills wouldn't fill up your screen with XP data, there was a scout/legacy control scheme, and it used to be all about winning the matches as opposed to bettering yourself with your K/D ratio whilst neglecting your teammates.
Yes, I would trade all that back in a heartbeat if it meant bringing SOCOM back to its roots. We already have a COD, why do we need every other game to be a COD? That's why I would prefer that Backbreaker stays as it does by not including a god cam. Madden and every other football game does that, this game does not; let's let us have our fun with it because no other accomplished game will do that for a while. I think the guy was just a fan of what SOCOM used to be and is sad that COD has ruined shooters for the long haul, because everything will try and be like it now.
Don't get me wrong, I love the new SOCOM, but like the new SSX that will be coming out I like it more because we're finally getting one for this generation of consoles, not so much because all of the changes being made are for the greater good.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: SOCOM 4
These bad reviews could be good for us gamers. It could mean less whinny little brats running around acting like it's COD. Just saying this could be a blessing...Moderator

Re: SOCOM 4
Great post Blzer.
Zipper created the foundation for an incredible franchise that has yet to reach it's potential imo. You actually felt like a Navy Seal in the older games, and I think they've lost that aspect, especially in multiplayer. It dissappoints me that they went after the casual market when they could have focused on creating a truly authentic military experience.
Of course, this is all based on early reviews and some time with the beta. I'm still looking forward to the full release, but since I'm such a huge fan of the first game, I hope some day they go back to their roots. You can probably find me playing in Abandoned once the game hitsLast edited by FlyRice; 04-12-2011, 09:36 PM.Comment

Re: SOCOM 4
Socom 3 was the game with guns and weapons weighing you down and that game was an abortion. "Stealth" or really wholesale, team wide camping had no place in the series up until garbage *** Socom 3 as well.
Socom 1 and 2 were a run and gunners DREAM. If you couldn't make people miss while at the same time keeping your aim steady you were toast every time. Damage was unrealistic, movement was unrealistic and the game was great because of it. There was nothing better than playing with your clan of friends and winning and killing people constantly in wars and in pubs. Having kills over deaths was actually a constant motivation because anyone could back out to the server lobby and check your stats. Despite that the most popular mode was Demolition because having no objective to play for wasn't as fun. Quick scoping and no scoping with sniper rifles, pumping people with the Seals 12 gauge and watching them fly, rushing with your clan and ending a round in 2 minutes or less (Frostfire Seals [less than a minute], Crossroads, Sujo, etc).
The game was very tactical but not in the way you say it. Socom Tactical was playing a map enough with enough different people to know where to throw nades to as soon as the round started depending on where you start in order to cut off areas of the map to either let your team rush or to prevent the players from the other team from rushing. A Socom map specific tactic for instance was knowing to not run out into the left Seal alley on Nightstalker after the first two seconds because of snipers and rushers.
As I said, Socom in its prime was a run and gunners dream. By prime I mean Socom 1 and 2. The series completely fell off after that.
Let's stop with the revisionist history please "Blzer". Your version of Socom 1 and 2 did not exist. Period. Unless you stuck to passworded rooms and played nobody that is. Your mythical Socom 1 and 2 could have existed there.
Sorry for the long rambling post but it's late and I don't like when people lie on the shooter that got me into online competitive console gaming.Comment

The most useful tidbits I got from this review is that your weapon MODs unlocks span ALL game modes and game types. Meaning that even during your single player campaign you are working towards unlocking weapon MODs for multiplayer be it coop or competative.
