I agree. The game looks good, but doesn't feel like SOCOM. I miss the old crosshairs, the non-regenerating health, and if I didn't know better I'd say you don't have to hold a button to reign over the voice command.

SOCOM: Confrontation was very much a lackluster effort, but damn it sure still feels like SOCOM... even down to the crappy online menus and long loading screens.

Aside from baseball in a month, I'm not picking up a new video game for a while anyway. I figure I can hold off on this, Twisted Metal, and some game out in the future till October for a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal.

the more you become like the popular, the more popular the popular becomes. You can never be COD better than COD...just be the best SOCOM. Also, while COD is the most popular shooter (b/c casuals play the most popular game), it doesnt mean ppl aren't tired of it or looking for something new and "better". You must have your own identity. Or you can believe ppl will pick up COD before they pick up COD-like.

the good thing is there will be a classic mode in the game without respawns. it does seem like Zipper is trying to get more casuals to play the game. Some of the decisions they have made are head scratching. No pistols, no grenade arch, No demolition mode.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread or game for that matter. I was just really excited to have a SOCOM game coming out and would have bought it no questions asked. Thats because I know the franchise and I loved it. This information is enough to make me not bother buying it though. If the things mentioned are what I wanted out of a shooter then I would just go buy CoD.

wow, I am disapointed. This went from a preorder day one purchase to a no purchase for me. I was pumped for this game until I heard all the things left out and dumb new things added. Demo is my favorite mode! I cant say without playing, but this doesnt seem like SOCOM. I will stick with Confrontation for a while longer. Like Blzer said we got baseball coming out in less than a month, so that should take up most of my gaming anyway (Blzer aka The Joker, we gotta get some Confrontation action going again, fun times man)

This is what I hate about some these gaming companies anymore. This same thing happened with UFC Undisputed 2010 and it ended up being one of the biggest disappointments of last year.

I don`t like some of the stuff that I am hearing right now about Socom 4 but I will wait until closer to the release date to decided if this is a first day purchase.

Socom with respawn just isn't right......

There's more than one way to play the game. Respawn's been in Socom since Socom II.

Yeah I know.......but Socom was never about respawn.

Socom was about getting tagged during a match and waiting for the next round to start. Socom was about pressing circle to talk on the mic and only one person could talk at once.

It's what made it different than the other shooters. Sure other games have "options" to make it like this as well.....but........it's just different.

I couldn't agree more with everything you just said. Again, even Confrontation was like this.

I'm sure SOCOM 4 will be a fine game, but it won't interest me as much because it won't be evaluated like a SOCOM game anymore.

Well, originally I planned to get Killzone and the Socom beta was an added bonus which got me pumped. I don't know why, but the open beta for Killzone didn't interest me at all, when I loved the first 2 games.
