Just practiced with Alistar a little bit, no bots, trying to get used to jungling. Once I had a hang of it, I just jumped into a get. I think it went very well. I ended up going 5/3/12, so I'm not complaining. I'll continue to learn how to play him and that will give me a good 3rd option. Thanks for the suggestions!

worry little about your K/D/A as Alistar. Even good ones will post games like 2/3/22. If you're killing as Alistar you're doing it wrong. I view him the same way as I view Nautilus and Nunu. They are support-tanks. Support first, tank second. You do well in that role and your teammates will love you.

I have always been willing to dish out assists if that what has to happen, and I'm seeing that Alistar is an assist machine. I love ganking with him and charging an enemy champion back towards my teammates and then pulverizing them. Now I just need to learn how to most effectively fight in a team battle with him.

          Re: League of Legends!

Just read that up to 5 million people play LoL everyday! Riot Games must be racking up some serious cash!

I have yet to play a single round of LoL and play Dota 2 every week. Not sure how I feel about getting started especially seeing how Dota 2 makes all heroes available and you have to pay to play them in LoL.

Well you could pay for them if you wanted but they have a free rotation every week, which I know is far from ideal, and you can buy champs with in-game currency. You don't have to spend a single dime of your money if you didn't want to. I know for me, I didn't spend any money until I reached level 30 and then decided I wanted to invest in a few champs.

Just checked. There are (allegedly) more concurrent LoL users than Steam users. ALL of Steam. Yikes.

Just heard a stat that there was one billion hours logged on LoL in the last calendar year. WoW was 600,000,000 hours in the last year and it took Halo 7 years to log 2 billion hours.

                      Re: League of Legends!

I stopped playing a long time ago, but recently I've found myself playing Smite instead of LoL. The community is less toxic, plus the 3rd person view makes the game a bit more challenging, and the game has great graphics since it runs on the Unreal 3 engine.
Give it a try if you have a chance.
                      Smite

They just officially released the game after 2 yrs of open beta on March 25th and have a special offer going on all the Gods.

I don't play League of Legends, but I've been loosely aware of Riot Games since 2009. I'm amazed at just how huge this game has become.

Don't worry, play east bots. If you're really concerned, play with bots for allies, too. I played bot games for like my first 30-40 hours of the game. Learn how to play, learn the items, learn a few champions, before jumping into PvP. If you don't have any prior moba experience, you're doing to suck right away. Sorry, it's just a genre that is hard to pick up at first. If you stick with it you'll find yourself enjoying it a lot more the more you learn the game and the champions.

There are some truly awful guides out there. I don't think there's one standard beginner's guide for this game, but one I found that does a good job explaining things: http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-le...legends-277555

It's a bit hard to read because this site is traditionally used for build/item guides, not full game guides. Nonetheless, it goes into explanations about most things you'll want to know. Ignore the recommend champions in that guide for now.

                              Champions I'd recommend for beginners:

                              SUPPORT:
Sona - very good lane support, and a game-changing ultimate. Easy to learn, hard to master. One of my personal favorites, and also the first champion I learned.
Leona - tanky as hell, brings terrific CC to the table. Your teammates will love you if you learn Leona.
Taric - a stun, a heal, and an ultimate that gives aura buffs to all allies, Taric is a good beginner support. He doesn't really fit into the current meta well, but you don't need to worry about that.

                              MID aka MAGE/CASTER
Ziggs - does insane damage, is fun to play, ultimate has a huge range. He throws bombs at people, I mean c'mon that's fun right?
Katarina - if you like high mobility, she can jump in and out of fights. Very easy to rack up multi-kills out of nowhere. Doesn't use mana, so only relies on cooldowns.
Ryze - becomes very tanky when built right. He uses a TON of mana, so using Ryze is a good way to learn mana management in this game.
Ahri - a little trickier to use than I would recommend for beginner's, but she's extremely popular for a reason. High damage, high mobility, and she's a lot of fun to play.

                              TOP aka BRUISER/FIGHTER
Renekton - probably should be the first top character you play as. Tanky, hard to kill, easy to use, and he fits well in the current meta.
Garen - another very easy to use character, Garen's passive gives him natural health regen higher than any other champion, as long as he's out of combat. Also, he spins.
Tryndamere - useless at high-level games because he's so easily countered, Tryndamere is a beginner's best friend. High damage or tanky, you choose. His ultimate makes him un-killable for a few seconds. Like Garen, he spins.
Nunu - ehh, he's not really the best top laner but for beginner's it's ok. Nunu can heal from consuming a minion, his snowball damages AND slows enemies, and his ult slows and deals massive damage in a small circle around him.

                              ADC aka RIGHT-CLICKERS/HARD CARRIES
(quick note: right clicker means these champions do not rely on abilities to do damage. just pew-pew-pew ftw!)
Caitlyn - Popular at all levels in league, Caitlyn does insane damage. She is good early on, she has traps, her ult can go almost anywhere assuming you can see the champion.
Ashe - she's in the tutorial for a reason. Very easy to use, her frost arrows slow enemy champions. She is easily countered so you don't see her in gold or higher, but good for beginners.
Miss Fortune - Her range is not great, but her ultimate in teamfights. She fires her guns that go in like a fan pattern, hurting anything in their path. Another easy to learn champion.

                              JUNGLE
don't worry about jungle for now. you generally need specific runes and mastery pages set up to clear jungle camps. Also, the best jungles right now, like Lee Sin, Elise, Kha'Zix, are hard to play as.

I've played over 1400 games in League of Legends. I also play a lot of other MOBAs, specifically DOTA 2 and Heroes of the Storm. The League of Legends community is by far the most toxic of them all. If somebody is harassing you for WHATEVER reason, just simply mute them and move along. You can still see their pings and callouts, just no chat. If they're truly rotten, then report them after the game. You WILL get called names, just let it roll off you, mute the twat and move on with the game. Don't contribute any further to an already toxic community. The game is so fun when done right, especially with friends. If you have any other questions I'm happy to help.

edit for clarity: my second comment was piggy-backing off of what BleedingRed21 said, but most of this was directed towards Candyman. sorry for any confusion.
