    Portal 2

Cover story of the next Game Informer.

Valve is known for making quality first-person shooters: The Half-Life series redefined how players think about the FPS genre, while titles like Team Fortress and Left 4 Dead took team-oriented multiplayer action to a whole new level. But among Valve's stable of popular shooters, one game stands alone: the mind-bending puzzler, Portal. A small-scale experiment that was squeezed into 2007's The Orange Box alongside some powerful heavyweights, the love Portal received from fans was beyond anything Valve could have imagined, winning it a full-fledged, standalone sequel. Our 12-page cover story gives you the first details on Portal 2's new gameplay mechanics, storyline, and some surprising new twists.

Wonderful news! I loved the first one. That game alone was worth getting the Orange Box.

        Game Informer Portal 2 Hub

After legions of fans embraced Portal, Valve knew they needed to double down and give them a sequel. The fiercely independent studio is investing more time, more capital, and more risk into a stand-alone, full-price retail release. To complement our world-exclusive Portal 2 cover story, we will be rolling out supplementary features all through the month of March.

Everyone knows Valve doesn't like porting their stuff to PS3. I actually don't think they've ever done it, as EA did it for The Orange Box and the two Left 4 Deads (if I'm not mistaken).

I don't think they would port it to Xbox if it wasn't so easy to migrate the code from PC to Xbox.

              Some details:

              http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Prod...oduct_id=77276

Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

pretty much, Valve isn't made up of console guys. If they haven't moved towards the ps3 by now, they never will.

I personally would have preferred Episode 3 instead of a full sequel to Portal though.

Such an awesome game. I just wish the Orange Box 2 was going to contain Episode 3, Portal 2, and a new Counterstrike. Would have been the best thing since, well, The Orange Box.

Exactly. The wait for Episode 3 has been ridiculous. They've made two Left for Dead games since Episode 2 came out and now this.

I'm beginning to wonder if Episode 3 will ever happen.

                      Re: Portal 2

I read somewhere recently that Valve feels bad about how they ****ted on PS3 owners. They said something to the effect of, "We want to be more committed on making quality PS3 games/ports, etc."
Translation: "PS3 is starting to move more consoles, so we need get in on that action."

I can't remember where I saw it, maybe Joystiq or something.

But, doesn't look like Portal 2 is coming to the PS3, at least not right away.

Am I the only one shocked that it's a $60 game now? There has to be a lot more to it than just Portal for me to fork over $60 for a sequel to a $10 game.

that would be awesome. I've been hoping they could find a way to bring CounterStrike to the 360, whether it was by XBL arcade or as part of another Orange Box.

I agree, it was so well praised because it was a surprise gem in the $60 Orange Box collection. However, since there's obviously no new Orange Box coming, they have to make it a full fledged $60 game.

The Orange Box collection was only made to push the Half Life episodes, as they found that consumers didn't react well to episodic content.

I think they are aware they need to include more content to make it a full priced release, and will be adding new/more content than the $10 version.

At least I hope they are aware....
