I like the booklet but most of the time the booklet is pretty much useless nowadays.

Exactly. Might as well do away with them as most of these games don't put anything other than most basic controls and maybe a brief story synopsis in the book.

Heck, nearly every game that comes out now has the first (or sometimes first couple) level/mission/whatever as a tutorial to the game or new features if it's a sequel.

Re: Death of the Instruction Manual

manuals have been dead for like a decade. Now we get like 6 pages of legalese, a controller map, ads for other games, and credits...all in black and white.

It's funny how they're saying it's for the environment, when they're just looking to cut corners, same with the horrible eco DVD/game cases now.

I remember in the old days of PC gaming when the Manual was like 200-400 pages.

It is all about making money. Instruction manual be so thin now because they want you to go out and buy their strategy guide. Have you not noticed how damn near every game comes with a strategy guide now ?

Even Madden and NCAA football had a guide last year.

I remember Civilization 3 manual was like a text book, that is how thick it was.

well why even buy a guide when you can pay for DLC videos that show you top secret strategies???

All this while even throwing in obnoxious ads for snickers or dr. pepper.

Front Page Sports Baseball Pro 98's manual was at least 200 pages. And thats for a baseball game. I still have those detailed Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games and books along with other games.

I've always been a stickler for thick, detailed instruction books.
I absolutely hate to see them go. Nothing was better than picking up a game on a lunchbreak and studying the book before you got home. Plus they were great bathroom material.

I always felt that I got more moneys worth when I picked up a game case that had a little bit of weight to em. Versus a game case that feels like the equivalent of a paper slip cover. I

                    But thats just me.

I always enjoyed reading through the manual of a newly purchased game, but they're so thin now. Only time you get a decent manual now is for Rpgs.

Any time I buy something and it's in a recycled case it's always flimsy as hell.

I'm all for saving the environment, but not at the integrity of my cases!

As far as instruction manuals go, I don't really care. They should put an insert in with a code to download the PDF version of it. My laptop's always near me anyways, so that would be pretty cool.

that booklet costs the company money. They can either cut some jobs or cut the booklets. I like the artwork that a lot of the booklets have. the main reason i haven't caught on to digital music purchases is because I like reading the liner notes and checking out the artwork in CDs
