Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
The perk I would like to see gone is lightweight as it exaggerates the players movement to much especially side to side plus the game is fast enough normally. Next in line would be last chance no need to reward a player for dieing."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment

My meh-tastic internet plus the fact that the game's hit detection can be sketchy makes me hate lightweight people. Plus they magically seem undamaged by claymores.Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Well, i'd say my days of online are numbered. After my daughter was born last Thursday, I haven't had any time to play this. I finally hopped on last night and did awful. I actually enjoy Combat Training more now, as I don't have to deal with connection issues or poor hit detection.
I'm thinking this may be getting traded in for the Show soon. It's a blast to play, but I find when I take breaks from the game and come back, I am AWFUL for a couple days before I get back to doing good. Well with even more limited time to play, i'll probably suck all the timeComment

So I started to play Hardcore Team Death Match & I think that is way better than regular though its alot more camping it takes way less bullets to kill someone."In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened." - Vin Scully

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Well, now that I've put in some reasonable amount of time into the game and developed something approaching average skill, I've started to notice that this game is basically all about how good your internet connection is. I know the CoD vets already know this, but it was a revelation to me when I realized that the results of any encounter basically boil down to how good your connection to the server is. In short, how you experience the game is completely different from how every other player is experiencing the exact same game, and even the same encounter, at the exact same moment in time. It's Einstein's relativity brought to stunning clarity in videogame form.
I've spent a lot of time watching "kill cams" (yeah...I die alot), and I realized that what I think happened from my perspective is not even close to what happened from the other player's perspective. There is no objective truth in this game. Not to get all metaphysical here, but what I mean (by way of example) is: I come around a corner and see an opposing team player; I squeeze off 4-5 rounds before he starts firing, but then he gets off 1-2 shots (at most), yet I'm the one that dies. Bullsh*t, right? How did that guy kill me in 1-2 shots with a less powerful gun, when I unloaded half a clip into him before he ever even turned to face me? Well, when I watch the "kill cam" closely, from his perspective, what happened was that he saw me come around the corner, started firing well before I ever got off my first round, and put 7-8 rounds into my a*s before I ever see my muzzle burst pattern. In other words, from my perspective I unloaded on him first, but from his perspective, he put half a clip into me before I ever fired my weapon. Same encounter, 2 completely different accounts of what happened.
This game is like some unholy Einstein-Rashomon mind-meld...and what accounts for the difference in perception of the game can only be some combination of gamecode and internet conenction. There has to be a way to standardize connection speeds (i.e. "pull down" faster connections to within some standardized range for everyone in the lobby) and at least take server connection speed into account when matchmaking. I've noticed that when I seem to be doing well and think I'm getting better, what's really going on is my internet is just behaving better that day. Some games, I get killed repeatedly no matter what I do, and then I realize I'm at 2 bars that day. Now don't get me wrong, by no means am I saying that if I just had a better internet connection I'd be ruling all, but it definitely makes a difference for face-to-face showdowns (which are at least 50-60% of enemy encounters) to the tune of probably 4-5 kills/deaths per game (conservatively). Not to mention that I think I'd just feel better about the results of the games if the server connections were equal - like I just got beat, rather than I got screwed by a bad server connection.
Anyway, that realization has really limited my enjoyment of the game at this point...I guess it's an inevitable fact of life for all fast-paced online multiplayer games, but I would have thought we'd be doing better in 2011. Back to my true home, I guess - sports gaming has been getting ignored lately...Last edited by pietasterp; 01-30-2011, 02:10 PM.Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
The crazy thing is the quality of your internet doesn't always ensure a better connection to this game. Over at another forum some people complaining about bad connections to the game even though they supposedly had very good internet connections. So people started posting their scores from speedtest.net and almost every single one of them blew my crappy connection out of the water. I was at 4MB Down and .25MB Up. Most people had download speeds 2 or 3 times faster than mine and upload speeds 7 or 8 times faster than mine yet I've had very few problems with connections since late November.Comment
