I kinda like the M16...the 3-shot burst is a bummer in a firefight, but all in all, really good stopping power and range. I played half my 2nd prestige with just the M16 and never really felt like I needed more. The FAMAS, of course, rocks, but it's stopping power leaves a litte something to be desired...

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Just started prestige number 9. This is will be much more painful than the last one because I don't have any lifetime challenges queued up and ready to go. Last time I went from level 5 to level 12 in like 2 matches. Level 14 is the goal because the Famas is the first AR that doesn't suck.
PS I really wish that Pro perks carried over with you when you prestiged. I hate having to unlock those every time I prestige, that was the main reason I waited like 3 months before prestiging. Instead of prestige 3, I would be something like prestige 6 or 7 by now.Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Well in the right hands the M16 can be beastly. Throw a scope on it and it makes for a great sniper rifel too. You could also use the AK74u as an AR since it's range is comparable to that of an AR,

I have no problem burst firing an auto AR but when I'm forced to do it I suck. I just run around like a crazy person with the MP5 until I unlock the Famas.Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Depends how you play, I guess...I'm more of a middler-of-the-roader, in the sense that I never really get a boatload of kills or huge killstreaks (except on occasions where I'm just getting especially lucky, i.e. guys are walking right in front of me around corners and what-not), more like a 15-20's per match type of player. I've just never figured out the strategy to getting massive kills, and I generally play more deliberately - staying out of the fray if possible, hanging back, skulking around known non-hot-spots on the maps...so yeah, pretty much exactly how NOT to be awesome at this game. So I generally try to stay out of stand-offs and firefights, and tactically pick people off, so the M16 is perfect for that style of play. I never rocked the AK74u like everyone else, because that requires you to do some Rambo-type stuff that I totally suck at. I've come to the conclusion that if I get into any kind of stand-off, I'm going to lose 75% of the time. Hence, I hang back and try to tag people without getting into a scrum. Kinda boring at times, but better than getting 30 deaths...Comment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
I'm almost through prestige 7 and I just don't know if I have the will and determination to plow through another prestige. Summer is on its way and with it brings football games and less time for Black Ops. It'd be nice to get to 15th prestige, but I just don't see it happening for me.NFL: Green Bay Packers
MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
NBA: Denver Nuggets
NHL: Colorado Avalanche, Pittsburgh Penguins
NCAA: Air Force Falcons, Penn State Nittany LionsComment

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
I'm a TDM only player so I don't always get a ton of kills. Usually around 15 give or take a couple of kills. Then maybe once every 10 games or so I'll have a game where I get into the mid to upper 20's. I value not dying just as much as getting kills.
I use all play styles. I'll straight up camp, run'n gun, or anything in between. It just depends on the map, connection, my mood, and what the enemy is doing. I don't like the M16 for any play style though.
My weapon usage goes like this......
Use the MP5 until I unlock Famas
Use the Famas until I unlock the Galil
Use the Galil until I unlock the Commando
Use the Commando until I prestige
I do still use the MP5 on smaller levels like Stadium, Nuketown, Summit, and Kowloon from time to time.
EDIT: I'll actually play more during the summer. I work nights and there isn't much else to do from 1 AM to 5 AM once all my tv shows go off for the summer.Last edited by sven; 03-30-2011, 04:15 PM.Comment

I also try all different play styles, and I definitely agree that not dying = getting a kill. I tend to stick to objective-based games; Hardcore Headquarters is my favorite. Sometimes I'll get crazy and try to take a shotgun and go Lightweight zooming around trying to get close-up kills, but that's a sure way for me to get double-digit deaths (and then some). I try to snipe, as I absolutely love sniping in general, but I haven't been able to find anywhere to do it on Black Ops and I'm not good enough to have any serious success doing so. I hear the new maps have some good spots, I just haven't gotten the map pack. I admit I will sometimes camp (isn't that also called an "ambush"?), but usually not egregiously. Plus, most people know where the camp sites on all the maps are now, and will smoke your a*s out of the there if you stick around for more than 1-2 cheap kills...
One thing we can (maybe) all agree on: the single-shot assault rifles in this game are total garbage. I've tried to use them and see their merits, but have failed miserably. My conclusion is they are just a complete waste. Has anyone had any sustained success with those suckers????Comment

Back when I played a lot of Black Ops I only had a few of these moments this was one. You really have to be able to anticipate where the enemies come from.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops
I was in the cubby hole on Firing Range, and took out the entire opposing team. There were guys on both sides of me, and I have no idea how I did not die. I was in a fire fight with a guy in front of me, I killed him, just as I started getting shot in the back, turned around killed that guy, wen't in the cubby hole, and they kept comeing out of seemingly nowhere, and by time it had ended I found my self on an 8 killstreak, and got the carpet bomb, which then proceeded to whipe out most of that team again. And all this happened within 10-15 seconds too. Then my kill streak ended when I proceeded to kill my self with my own grim reaper, which I got through a previous care package. I would upload a video of it, as I have it stored in my fileshear, but I don't know how.Comment
