Re: stuck it to the Man (Gamestop)

I hate how Gamestop does that with a new game and refuse to buy those.

I've never had a problem with their used games though, so I'd save 2 bucks and just get the used...they're usually in good shape, and honestly I tend to play the game and sell it back so not like I own it for years.

well i don't mind paying the extra 2 bucks if it will help encourage a game studio to make more original and creative games like VC.

Nope. Once in Gamestop the clerk tells me I'm better off buying used so I can return the game if I finish it in 7 days!

I'm sure the ultimate goal of gutting new copies is to push people that care towards buying a used copy instead.

So she actually went into a drawer and pulled out the game and placed it in the game box. Then she taped up the box with a tamper proof seal. I thought that was especially funny. Thes whole situation just didn't seem right. I may have purchase my games elsewhere in the future

I don't have the same problems as you guys withthe Gamestop in my neighborhood. I actually got a brand new 360 controller "used" because some guy had just brought it but his 360 got the RROD before the opened the controller package up. He just rang up the used one I'd picked up and gave me the new one. I always get a pretty good deal at the usual Gamestop I go to. However, the second closest one to me is a pos. Why do you have a ton of cases for used games you don't have on the shelves and then when I ask for a headset compatible with the PS3, they say they don't have one and I had already looked at it?

they do that with limited number of copies they remove it and put a box on display its to save space . i just bought fifa south africa it was new , but they only got like 3 copies and mine was the last one so it was new, but to advertise for the game they have to put on the shelf

The whole "new but not really new" thing is why I don't buy new games from GS. Outside of Madden at midnight, but those are always in a wrapper.

I bought Tiger Woods 08 from there once. Priced as new, I was handed an open copy with a clear sticker over the grooves to open the case. I was angry. Never again. I'll go to Best Buy or Wal-Mart if I want a new game.

It's not that, I was confused as well, it's mostly because of the title. Taking back the used copy for a new one isn't really sticking it to Gamestop, they still get your money and they still have that used copy to sell to some other schmo. Buying new is great and all, don't get me wrong, but it's hardly sticking it to Gamestop. That's where the confusion set in.

well for one... GS makes about $5 on sale of a new game and from $10 -$40 on a used games

sure its sticking it to gamestop. I paid an extra $2 but at the same time gave more revenue to the developer and less to gamestop.

you have to understand that Gamestop's business model is heavily dependent on undercutting the the economics of new game sales.

that takes money away from game studios, which ultimately will result in a smaller, understaffed development teams, which leads to sub par games.

I'm not completely against used game sales but don't sell me a used game that's $2 less than a brand new copy. that's just BS on a few levels

i agree...u were buying a cheaper game. they werent gonna make a ******** amount of dough on it anyway...meaning they paid some kid $12 for trade in and sold it to u for $17.

now if u played em on a game that was $55 used and then opted for the new copy...THAT would've been sticking it to them cuz u wouldve only made them $5 instead of the $30+ they wouldve gotten...and why i HATE them. they should be a little more fair on trade in values. i tend to keep my games...only time i trade is when they give extra 25-30% promotions. that way they bring the games into what i deem a "somewhat fair value"

I don't do it anymore because I don't play games often at all (and mostly it's been replaying games I bought years ago and never played much).

I think some stores stopped the policy a few years ago, but that may have been for new games.
