Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

    More like the forgotten game!

No topic on here,no reviews,it's all Alan Wake,skate.3,Split/Second,Modnation and RDR. Who would've thought the middle of May would be a danger zone? I could only find a review for the handheld version.

Well anyway it's out today. I plan on renting it,anyone else getting it? Impressions? and so on...

I was (and still am) waiting on a review of this game. I have always loved PoP games, but there was just too much coming out at the same time. It does worry me a little that no reviews have shown up yet. You would think they'd be getting this game out everywhere to get reviews, if for no other reason than to put the game in the minds of buyers.

I agree with you - it is definitely the forgotten game.

I see that Nintendo Power rated the Wii version, but I couldn't find the score anywhere. It was blacked out on the site I went to.

This May is becoming almost like November - we never get good games like these going into summer. Most years I'd be jumping all over PoP just to have something to play.

I've read 2 reviews, both of which say that the combat is kinda bad (which is to be expected) and the platforming is really good. One review mentioned that the game is kinda short (I'd guess about as long as conviction).

I bought it off of Amazon but will return it. I read joystiq's review that said the graphics aren't that great and the combat is really dumbed down, there isn't any blocking or acrobatic moves so it has me worried so I will return and just rent the game.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

It's much more like the Xbox/PS2 games.
All the nusinances fixed by the last one are back. I've had to rewind quite a few times due to crappy camera angles or attempting to jump when I should've wallran. In one case I accidently hit RB instead of RT while trying to pull a switch and ended up losing a rewind. That didn't factor into anything, just saying that sort of stuff wasn't a problem the last time.

There is no blocking but there's dodging and there is acrobatic moves. However the acrobatic moves don't flow and it's certianly nothing like the last game. You can jump on them in close then press attack and you'll get an acrobatic move but there's no juggling or comboing out of it. The best thing to do is press Y to knock them over then X for the finishing move. The most common of which is a punch.

              It's still good overall though.

I really liked the reboot came from 2 years ago. I was pretty disappointed that they went back to this, so I was never really interested in this this one. I hear the reviews are so-so as well.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is an odd mix. In its gameplay it is more complex and tougher than its predecessor, but also thankfully still clever in its acrobat-ready designs. As a tightly-designed platformer it is upper-echelon in a modern era where only new Mario games are in the running to surpass it. As a narrative game, it is a collapse of the emotional potential of its predecessors, a more stiffly portrayed exploit that perhaps-not-coincidentally demonstrates action-move shallowness among its characters and worlds. This is a game with fun and beauty but not dashing charm. The Prince of Persia's high standards are best met when all three are achieved. This game falls short of that, a brief pleasure and a reminder of why some earlier Princes of Persia are milestone achievements in video game development.

This isn't the next great Prince of Persia. It's an echo of the past, a reminder of the good and the bad. If you have fond memories of The Sands of Time or The Two Thrones, hold onto them. Go back and play those games. Relish the original's elegance and the third game's improved pacing and combat -- The Forgotten Sands will only remind you that they are better games.

Yup that sums it up quite well. Liking the new water thing.

Funny while it seemed this was the forgotten one the rental store had 3 copies of this (and 3 of Alan Wake and 2 of Split/Second) and didn't have RDR.

                    Awesome achievement...

I may decide to keep the game as it doesn't sound too bad and I like the platforming of the others plus I didn't pay full price. My Blockbuster has 0 copies of split/second, alan wake or any version of POP.

I picked this one up and it isn't too bad. It isn't as good as Red Dead, but it is a nice diversion from the other games coming out.

                        I'd recommend a play-through.

Rented it and have put about 5-6 hours into it. Only really liking the platforming, and it's a good thing that's what you're doing the most. Do the environments change at all? The amount of copy and paste is ridiculous. Give me more of the 2008 Prince of Persia with less hand holding like this game, please. The reboot had style, was bold, and had a story for once in the franchise that was worth following. The Forgotten Sands feels like a rushed game to meet the launch of the movie, and a cheap attempt to try and recapture some of that Sands of Time magic.

I hope they go back and make that sequel to the 2008 game that this game should have been.

Not really, you're only ever at the palace. There's only the different areas within it. You should be almost finished actually. Something a bit different towards the end.
