    Help: Would Gamestop allow this?

I need help because as some of you may know, my PS3 is working just fine except it doesn't read Call of Duty and that's basically the only game that I'm interested in (for now). But I want to buy a new PS3 just in case I want to bring it to college down the road (I already have a fat PS3 but like I said, it doesn't read COD).

Now I'm just wondering about Gamestop credits... does it allow me to go up as high as I want and also exchange them consoles? For example... can I exchange my:

    -Xbox 360 (used) 20 GB
    -2 Wired Controllers
    -2 Wireless Controllers
-A bunch of games including Madden 10, NBA 2k10, RDR, etc.

Would they let me use the store credit on a brand new, slim PS3?

Does anyone here know if that's enough? I should probably call them up or what not tomorrow to see if this is indeed enough.

For your sake I hope it is but I really wouldn't be surprised if it isn't when you consider how cheap Gamestop/EB Games is with their trade-ins. Unless they have some kind of deal that gets you extra trade credit when you trade towards a system or something.

I could be wrong though and that could be enough to get one.

I really don't think you'll come up to the full amount of the PS3 with that stuff. The console with all the controllers will probably only get you somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 bucks. You'll have to check the site to see if they are running promos now, but usually they only give extra trade-in credit on consoles towards newer stuff coming out. I'm sure they have something going on where you can trade stuff in towards pre-ordering the new 360 slim, Kinnect, Move..stuff like that.

It sucks, I know. You're better off trying to sell it all on Craigslist as a bundle or something.

Edited to say I found some numbers. cheapassgamer.com is great for tracking this stuff. Hopefully they don't mind that I reprint this here. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you've got a ton of games to trade in you won't have enough for the PS3.

Re: Help: Would Gamestop allow this?

This would be a little complicated and won't be as immediate, but gamestop is running a promotion for trading in for the new Xbox 360 Slim. If you trade in the Xbox with a wired or wireless controller you get 100, 20 for a 20 gb hard drive, etc, see link:

            http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/x...e/default.aspx

So trade that in for the 360 slim. Since they are sort of rare right now, if you do get a 360 slim, take that to ebay:

Example of this one already at 330:

That should get you there and probably even.

You gotta remember though, this guy is selling the slim 360 right now. He must have gotten one from E3 or some other avenue. If you do that Gamestop deal you have to wait for the official console release date, at which point the prices on Ebay will plummet back down to normal levels.

I still say Craigslist is your best bet.

And just as an aside and little soapbox, I checked that Ebay link and this thing is at over $400 right now. Are people that crazy? This is really just the same machine that functionally does the same thing as the one that's already available. Do people get boners that much for new gear?

Re: Help: Would Gamestop allow this?

I called Gamestop and they up the price if it goes towards a new slim 360. For example, if I exchange my unit now, it will be $75 normally, but if it goes towards a new 360 it's $100. They up the value if it is going towards store credit for the new 360 even for the wireless and wired controllers. So what I'm just going to do is exchange it for a new one and sell that for a new ps3 perhaps. And I don't even have a craigslist account but I think I should be able to find someone in no time there, right? I just have to buy one of those anti-counterfeit markers...

The slim was set to release on the Monday of E3. The gamestops by me got it in last Thursday, some had it Wednesday but they got eaten up quick. It will take a bit of an effort to get one, that is for sure though, which is why people are paying more for it.

Also, FYI I just looked at the listing, someone bought it for $2000.....I think I might sell mine when it comes in...holy ****...

Selling mine for $330 to a friend. I can probably get it for $400 on eBay... but this is a good friend of mine.

Craigslist is a much better option that GS. You will get more. You may even be able to trade the 360 for a ps3 straight up.

New 360 slim wouldn't make sense to trade in for a used PS3 though... I'm selling my 360 slim for $330.
