I'm a noob at this game and I was wondering what the sniper's job is other than sniping people and pointing enemys out to teammates.
I just want to do my job right in this game, I'm done with running and gunning, that is sooo played out to me.

I'm a little conflicted about the point of recon. When I play recon I usually use it to put down a Radio and T-UGS or MAV. If I have a teammate with javelin, i'll use the SOFLAM if they ask me. But then it defeats the purpose of using long range weapons and I'll end up using the generic weapons. Really a head scratcher on why they gave close and person gadgets (radio and tugs) then expect you to use long range weapons. IMO in bc2 they had it right. Motion sensor could be thrown, and mortar strike could be targeted anywhere with line of sight.

But if you got a friend using mortars, the MAV is a great counterpart.

Recon class (what you're calling sniper) has several ways to help the team other than sniping and spotting. They can drop mobile spawnpoints for their squad, paint vehicles and aircraft with the SOFLAM for other teammates to take out, and also control the MAV, an aerial scouting robot (technically that's also spotting, but on a much larger scale). Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting too.

The MAV can also be used as a motion detector as well. Land it near an objective and it will spot anyone that comes within range. If I'm at a spot to watch a point, I'll use the MAV over the general area then land it near another point we control so the other players can see the spotted guys coming at them.


Still wish the recon had the mortar strike. It would be very useful being such a distance away from the target. Especially when heavy armor rolls into the area.

I know exactly what you mean about the chopper. He was pretty good though. I did manage to take him and his copilot out a couple times with my stinger! Nice job to both you and Tmagic! I'm glad I finally found an OS'er on the west coast!!

Just had a magnificent game on Wake Island, but sadly people still are not getting the memo. If you hold B, it doesn't mean a thing when the opposition holds A and C the entire match. Sigh. Oh well.

Just throwing this out there, if anyone wants to play, I'm up for it.

Time zones are not to much of a problem for me, although West Coast is difficult as its about 16:45 here in the UK and anyone on that side of the States has only just woken up.

And I do have a headset but that's only if you don't mind my annoying british accent. :wink:

I can't believe I played this game for 6 hours straight last night. I started at 9pm and before I knew it, I looked and it was 2:45 am. I need to go To BF3 Anonymous, I got a problem, lol!

Finally, after roughly 121 hours, I am level 45. I got it last night at almost 3 AM after a game of rush with some OSers

I've never put anywhere close to as many hours into a game online as I have with this one. In fact, I usually don't even bother with online play in any game, which is very telling about how awesome this game is

I try to blast tanks when I can. I really want to unlock rockets soon so I can do even more damage to the ground.

I knew gopadres was on but when I joined then when I saw you and nem I was thinking, you all must had some late caffeine.

I was really surprised at the time when you and nem finally left. At least I helped getting you to 45. We kinda dominated. Gopadres literally drove me in a tank to every MCOM on Firestorm. The defensive hold on Damavand Peak was fun too.

As for the planes, if they are keeping the air clear they are doing a great job IMO. If a team has air superiority they can cause chaos on the ground. Experienced pilots now fly very slow and destroy tanks when they have nothing to worry about in the air. I recently unlocked the rocket pods but I have yet to use them.
