Gonna get me a new Xbox!

So last night I was playing NCAA, and was into the 4th quarter of a really boring game, just glad it was almost over (Nebraska vs. Utah St.). Anyway, when the infamous "Your disk is dirty or damaged" screen popped up.

Well, I almost had a fit, when suddenly I realized something I hadn't yet... When I got my Launch version Xbox, I put down the money for EBs extended warranty. Stupid me, it takes this long to remember. So I call up EB, and sure enough, I can trade in my old Xbox for a brand spaking new one FOR FREE, right there in the store! No waiting, no shelling out $100 to Microsoft to fix the faulty drive!

Anyway, after reading how much "better" the new Xboxes were at reading games *cough* *cough* (I'm looking at you EA), tomorrow I will be saying goodbye old Xbox, HELLO NEW XBOX!

It also dawned on me...I get a new S Controller too, Sweet.

Only drawback, all my saves will be gone (the one I'm most pissed about, KOTOR, and that file is WAY to big to fit onto a Memory card.)

    The moral...

If you ever EVER get a new console, do yourself a favor and spend the extra cash on the extended warranty. No hassles, and a brand new console WAIT FREE!

    Thank you EB games

Are you sure it's your Xbox and not the game? A lot of people (including myself) have had trouble with NCAA 2004. Does it do this with other games? If not, try boiling the disc.

Yes, I'm almost positive its my Xbox.

When NCAA 2004 came out, there were MASSIVE Dirty disk errors on Xbox, and though discussions of it, it seemed to only be on Old Xboxes. There were a few people who traded in their Xboxes for new ones and all the errors were gone.

Apparently the dvd-cd drvies in the launch date xboxes were sort of crummy and have gone out on many xboxes. Microsoft apparently realized this and released a "version 2" Xbox (even though they didn't really recall the first set). The key to seeing if you have a new Xbox or an old one is the fact that the disk tray is slightly different. I guess the new ones have a hole in them.

NCAA 2004 is not the only game it does this for. Madden also has caused problems, so has KOTOR (although only a few times).

Anyway, even if it was the game, I can still have a brand new xbox for free (pretty much).

I have heard that boiling a game can help, but why not take the chance to get a brand new Xbox.

Can you or someone else please explain how to boil discs please? I really need to get this done for my games.

Do I just throw it in bioling water and walk away?

Well, the trade worked like a charm, no questions asked, nothing, just took the old one, made sure the major parts were in there, and got a brand new one.

Seriously, everyone buying a console should just pay the $50 for the extended warranty, and then use it at least once to get their money's worth.
