Otogi is the hands-down, slam dunk, no competition, flat-out, undisputed sleeper hit of 2003. Their may never be another game so great with this little fanfare.
You are a badass half-dead samurai that has to "purify" beautifully rendered environments from all manner of spirits and demons. The lovely part is that every wall, every tree, every building is destructable. As a matter of fact, you get graded on how much stuff you hack to peices. Talk about visceral satisfaction. Add the fact that the hero has limitless combo attacks (I've read that you can get the combo numbers into the hundreds!) and an excellent English translation. New weapons, armor and spells that you can purchase along the way give this game some psuedo-RPG depth. Great atmosphere on this puppy.
