    Re: Dark Souls (PS3/360)

Since I'm having Rage problems on my PC I will be picking this up at lunch and taking the rest of the day off.

I haven't heard of any differences between the two versions as they both experience slowdown in certain areas. I'll get it for the 360 since I like the controller better.

Should I play Demon's Souls before I play this?

You do not have to, but I am going to go back and play it before I pick this up since I have yet to finish it.

Just because. Then I want to see how this evolved.

Decided to rent this for now. I just want to make sure I get more enjoyment than frustration out of it.

Sadly, this can be sadistically true!

I played for about an hour and a half as a Wanderer. I died about 30 times...but...there was only one time where it set me back far enough that I cursed out loud. Giving a quick run with a Warrior to see how that is. So far, love the game.

Addendum: I was hoping the Warrior would deal more attack damage at the beginning, but so far that hasn't been the case. I took down the first tutorial boss in one try with my Wanderer two with the Warrior. The Wanderer was faster to circle around him and that made a big difference.

Dear god this game sounds insane. I am scared to get it (it cold make me melt down in rage) but the last great action RPG I have been playing on my xbox was Bastion (awesome) and Castlevania.

I'm passing on this for now. May get it used later on, but right now my life is pretty happy, and my evenings are pretty happy and enjoyable. I know when I buy this game all that will change and I'll swear 20 times more than I normally do lol

Decided I'll pick this up instead of Rage for now. Had a nice break from FPS' this year after being burnt out on them and I don't really have an urge to play another yet, especially with Rage sounding so linear and encounters that seem to take after CoD.

I think I am getting this game..wow. the video review blew me away. I know it will be super hard, but my god this looks like one of the best xbox games I have ever seen.

30 times in an hour and a half?! Wow. I'm in undead burg and I've only died from the bosses. 3x total. I'm very careful though.

If you rush in like your common Action RPG... 30 times will happen

If you take it slow and methodical, you will fare much better.

Well my order from Amazon came in and although I ordered the collectors edition I got the regular one. Really not that big of a deal but still disappointing.

I imported Demon Souls from Asia so I really do like that game but Dark Souls just feels better. I thought Demon Souls was a little bit disjointed and a little confusing. Dark Souls just feels great and the one seamless world makes me feel like I'm progressing instead of going back to a hub. I'm playing on the 360, installed on the HD, and the graphics are so-so, I did notice some slowdown during some of the tutorial but it didn't occur during combat. I've been playing the Witcher 2 with a controller and I'm used to that control scheme and it conflicts with this one. A weak attack is the RB and the strong attack is RT and you can't change those from what I've seen. I'm not a big fan of the LB/RB buttons on the 360 as sometimes they don't seem to respond and in this game you need everything to work precisely but I haven't had a problem with this yet. I did notice that I wasn't able to switch the lock-on I had to lock-off then lock-on maybe I didn't try using the right stick then, but that is how it worked in Demon Souls.

They did change the menu system but the background graphics are very dark and muddy looking. I was at a merchant and I couldn't find where you could compare what you had to what he was selling. I also found out that if you don't close your inventory you can't attack but you can move and I've forgotten a couple of times and paid the price.

And a combat tip you really need to pay attention to the attack patterns and know the speed of your different attacks. Timing is everything and if you hit an enemy before his blow lands you will cancel his attack and knock him back. If you get in a hurry you will die so you do need patience and if you do you will be rewarded but if you don't then the game will not be for you.

If I grab this tonight I'll probably get the PS3 version so it can sit next to it's brother when I need to calm down a while after playing it
