New Games this Year? (versus Used?)

Since I found eBay around the 2005 frame, yeah, I was a late comer, I have been buying most of my games used from there, and occasionally the Amazon store, though I prefer eBay as the policies for handling issues favor the buyer, rather than the seller. Since then, I have mostly bought used games, with this year being the year I bought the most new games in a long, long time. Thought I'd post a poll to see how many of us by used, versus new, and then to see if folks could list the games they did buy new this year.

Here's my new game lists for 2010:

Ok, that's a LOT more than I had thought I purchased, and probably the most I have bought new in the last 6+ years. Thus far, Dante's Inferno was the most disappointing, being broken the 1st month after preOrdering it, Red Dead Redemption has been my favorite, and my better than expected game has to go to Alan Wake thus far (which I bought used), though I have a feeling it may end up going to Enslaved: Odyssey to the West if the reviews for the game actually hold up.

Even with 15 new games, I still bought 3x more used games (easily), as I will pretty much order anything off eBay if I can get it in Like New shape around $10. Just ordered 6 new games yesterday in fact, some that I know are going to be bad.

Lately its been more new purchases due to all the $20 promos there have been with the new releases.

I've bought 1 used game and somewhere between 18 and 22 new games.

Same here. Nearly all of my purchases came off Amazon with a couple off Wal-Mart, and one off Dell (NCAA 2011, which I got for $39.99).

Pretty much always new. If there's a game that I don't rush out to buy and wait a few months on I end up Gameflying it.

New....I like the new game smell, the joy of taking off the wrapper, hearing that 1st crack of the case opening. Running my fingers on a fresh crisp game manual.

Used games don't even come with a manual most of the time and when they do it has so many stains on it that it makes you not even want to touch it.

Yeah this is me also. My only used game was off of ebay cuz you cant buy it new with english subtitles. I like to support the devs

Nine times out of 10, I'll get buy a game new. ...or make it 9.5 times out of 10. There's just something about buying new that I prefer. Although I have been out of work so my buying this year has been pretty slim. Needless to say, I've been playing a lot of demos.

I picked up MLB 10 and Madden, new. I bought Band Hero used because I had $20 Amazon to kill...and that might be it so far. I did receive Split/Second as a birthday gift from someone, so that was cool. I've borrowed and tried out other games from friends, but as for actually owning, I think it's just those four. I'll (finally) be coming into a little expendable income soon, so I expect to pick up Rock Band 3, NBA 2K11, and WWE Smackdown 2011 before the year is out.

But yeah, the answer to the subject line is, as I said, almost always new.

If I buy, I buy it used. For the most part I'll just use my game rental subscription to play games I know I'll only play once and be done with it (ie Mafia II).

Exactly. People treat games terribly. I treat mine like a work of art. No creases in the manual and no scratches on the discs. I swear some people look like they throw it around like a frisbee.

Results have me wondering how many folks here have a GameFly account. I don't have one, instead choosing to buy my games used off eBay. Wish I would have added that as an option now.

I buy more new games because I usually buy the limited or collector's editions plus, I usually end up forgetting about a lot of games if I don't buy them new and never get around to playing them at all.

Probably 75% used for me. I use gamefly so I don't buy that many as is but if I like one I've rented I will use the keep it option at times. Plus when Gamefly wants to get rid of some stock and runs a sale they practically give the games away.
