Re: Minecraft
What are the best mods/texture packs out there? I just purchased it but haven't played it as I was just casually browsing mods and was overwhelmed.

Re: Minecraft
Agreed, I'm not sure about top 5 for me, maybe top 10. Either way, it's still awesome and it's one of the most addicting games I've ever played. It's right up there with Civilization when it comes to games that make you wonder where those 6 hours just went.Huskers | Chelsea FC | Minnesota United | OmahaComment

Re: Minecraft
This preview from PC Gamer really shows how the game is going to grow.
I can't wait for this update.
Minecraft is about to get its biggest set of changes in a while, in the Adventure Update. It's focused around making the world more interesting to explore, with traces of civilizations, larger climate zones, freaky new monsters, new block types and combat tweaks.Mojang sent us a pre-release verison that I've been playing around with for a few days now, and my brain has magically formedComment

Re: Minecraft
Yep, 1.8 has dropped and it's really made both the survival and creative aspects much better.
This game has come a long way since it's early days, but still stayed true to where it started. Still one of my favorite games to play.Huskers | Chelsea FC | Minnesota United | OmahaComment

If that's not for you, that's okay, but I don't feel that there's supposed to be an A to B linear progression in this game.Comment

Re: Minecraft
I'm fully aware of what the game is and isn't - and like I said, it's a mess of ideas. They keep adding features to the game that seem to serve no real purpose; and instead of really fleshing them out and then having them tested by the players, the just toss them in incomplete, without giving people a real vision as to what the features are supposed to do, and tell them to help fix them.
Like XP - no one really knows what the hell levels are supposed to be doing. They add NPC villages with no NPCs. They add hunger which really does nothing but annoy people and is tedious. Things like that.
Also - it's not just a full out sandbox game. It's supposed to have two mods - Survival/Adventure and Creative. Creative is the one in which you just build whatever you want and fly around and whatever; they're adding that or have added it with 1.8 (I'm not entirely sure).
Survival is why I bought the game. It was designed under the guise of a game in which you actually have something to survive against; a challenge. But there's really no such thing; it's still just creative mode with a few dinky monsters.
They need to really pick it up and figure out what this game is. Either make it a full on sandbox game - or make different modes that actually live up to their name; don't call a mode Survival when it's no such thing.
It's just a total mess to me right now, and I'd like to see them figure out what they're doing.
Hell - the users come out with better content than they do, and they come out with it more quickly and with far less bugs and glitches.
They're also rushing it along and forcing it. This is NOT a Beta game. Anyone who's done testing for Beta games can see this. It's an Alpha game. I'm curious why with all the sales and success they still feel like pushing it when it's not ready.
Beta games are games full and rich with tested features and functions. The idea is to balance and de-bug.
Alphas are when features are added, tested, adjusted, etc.
Imagine going and playing WoW Beta where you have 2 spells available and one physical attack. The next month they add one attack that's buggy. 2 months later they add a spell that's buggy and add another new physical attack and remove the other one. Then they add a new mob type that doesn't work - then they add a bunch of new items and... etc, etc.
That's not what a Beta is. If you've tested a Beta before - you know the game is almost complete and is in the de-bugging and balancing stage. WoW Beta's come out with all the items, stats, npc's, skills, attacks, etc - and the point is to help fix anything that's not working as it's supposed to. That's what Beta testing is.
Yes - things continue to get added here and there - but that's because it's a live game; and because updates these days are common in games.
This game is mid-level Alpha at best and is hardly anywhere close to a complete game.
Notch and crew just seem to be stumbling around, unsure of how to actually finish and package a game.Last edited by st67; 09-19-2011, 11:25 AM.Comment

Re: Minecraft
There really is no 'alpha' 'beta' or a finished game. Theres always going to be updates. Basically minecraft is constantly in alphaComment

I keep switching from peaceful to easy. When I'm strictly building, I put it on peaceful, but if I'm exploring or mining, it's on easy. I've built a nice big house, but I'm thinking of moving onto a better area with more land. But we'll see. I have to explore the caves I found, hoping to find some diamonds, but no luck so far. Found a few gold ores but nothing else.Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo
