    Stacking (XBLA/PSN)

Double Fine's other downloadable title. Neat concept for a puzzler.

    Eurogamer

Tim Schafer's Double Fine studio has announced its next title – a puzzle adventure called Stacking, due on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in Spring 2011.

The game, to be published by THQ, sees you take control of a small Russian matryoshka – you know, one of those 'nesting' dolls that opens up to reveal another doll, which opens up to reveal another doll, and so on.

You have to jump inside other matryoshkas to take on new abilities – such as jumping into a female doll to distract a guard so you can sneak through a door.

Burping and flatulence also appear to be key themes.

PS+ subscribers will get Stacking for free

Tim Schaffer and the brilliant minds over at Double Fine are releasing Stacking next Tuesday, and PlayStation Plus subscribers are getting a free download of the game the day it hits the PlayStation Store! Take control of Charlie Blackmore, a small matryoshka dolls, as you explore the diorama-like levels. Much like previous Double Fine games (Costume Quest & Psychonauts), expect some great humor and gameplay in this new adventure title.

          1UP Review - A

Stacking is short, but that's a small sin for a game that gathers together so many distinct elements so skillfully. I'd rather play a game that condenses a fun experience into several great hours rather than overextending itself with boring fetch quests, or letting its puzzles grow staid and mechanical. Stacking proves that lively character and set designs, catchy music, and clever writing are far more important in making a good game than simply adding filler to extend the quantity of gameplay hours.
          IGN Review - 8.5

Stacking is chock full of charm, humor, and fun puzzles. Though some of the solutions are really easy, if you avoid the hint system it’ll take some time to decipher some of the harder ones. If all you want to do is run through the story without trying other solutions, performing Hi-Jinks or collecting dolls, Stacking may not be the best $15 investment. However, it’s hard not to get sucked into this colorful world, so if you can appreciate the style of humor Stacking has to offer, you’ll enjoy this game immensely.
