    Xenosaga

    Any rpg fans who have had the chance to play this game before on the ps2?

    I beat the first 2 about a year ago and I finally got around to starting the 3rd one this week, since finals are over. I love the games, but wow has there ever been a more complex story in video game history?

    So many questions were raised in the first 2 games with very few answers. I'm about 10 hours into episode 3 now and more and more mysteries get raised. If anyone caught the December issue of game informer (Kratos, Auron, and a few others on the cover) there was a list of 30 video game characters who "defined a decade". KOS-MOS is #25 and the little piece written for her is so true. "Explaining more about her significance practically requires advanced degrees in philosophy and religion".

    Any other fans of this amazing series?

    Re: Xenosaga

    I like Xenosaga a lot, but IMO, as good as it was, it never lived up to the legacy of its progenitor from the PS1, Xenogears. Xenogears, to me, is still the best console game of all time. With Xenosaga, believe it or not, they seemed to scale back some of the philosophical and religious overtones, which hurt the narrative somewhat, IMO. Its still a really solid series though.

    Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

    Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

      I never played xenogears. I've been wanting to get my hands on it since I started the xenosaga series, but it's an expensive game to get.

      Hard to believe it's even more complex than xenosaga

        Huge fan, the saga ranks third among my favorite RPG series behind FF and Star Ocean. It's a shame that the story got consolidated into just 3 episodes instead of the planned 6 (as such, Xenogears as Ep. 4 of the original plan, ends up being a completely seperate tale).

        Enjoy Ep. III, a lot of things are going to happen before the end.

          I'd call it more complex because, for the first half, 3/4 of the game it's a pretty mainstream RPG with towns, world map, etc. Things change drastically at a certain point though, and it becomes a lot more linear like Xenosaga. That totally caught me by surprise the first time I played it - it's like it shifted to a whole other game. Then it goes back to the world map for the ending, but many things in the world have changed (think FF8 where access to towns is blocked off on Disc 4).

          I suppose that's why I don't mind the entirety of Xenosaga being heavy on storytelling and light on gameplay.

            I finally beat it last night. I'm still not exactly sure wth just happened in the story, but it's sad to see it end.

            Part of me is dieing to know what happens next, but I also appreciate the ending as it was done. Great trilogy. Easily my favorite rpg games to date. I'll probably have to get my hands on a copy of xenogears at some point now.

              I'm trying to remember if I played through the second one, and know I didn't play the 3rd.

                Wow! Now thats taking me back to my teen gaming years. I remember playing this series & throwing alot of hours into it but I can't remember most of the story anymore. I do remember the story being very lengthy though.

                  Can't wait to play Xenogears

                  An assortment of very interesting PSone Classics is on the way to the PlayStation Store, as revealed by new ratings released today by the ESRB.

                  And what games will we see? Only a large helping of Square Enix RPGs, Arc the Lad III, and a Ridge Racer game.

                  Check out the full list of titles below. We’ll probably see these release over the next few weeks’ PlayStation Store updates.

                  * Arc the Lad III
                  * Legend of Mana
                  * R4 Ridge Racer Type 4
                  * Threads of Fate
                  * Vagrant Story
                  * Xenogears

                      Yeah I'm excited about this news. I've been wanting Xenogears for a while now, and I've always heard good things about Vagrant Story.
