I can understand it in the context that the games are being reviewed by today's standard in video games.

But they should not be because they are "not today's games".

But like anything, reviews are all subjective.

You can see GEMS, and I mean complete MASTERPIECES, get docked on IGN (Ico/SotC), when they play IDENTICAL to the originals, actually better cause of the nicer visuals and smoother frame rate... the gameplay still holds up... but then they give them a whole point or two lower?

Yet the "remakes" which are essentially the same, no wait, they are the same, (Zelda, Starfox) on the 3DS get the same glowing reviews they got way back when on IGN.

        No consistency. All subjectivity.

That is why it is so hard to put weight into anything. And the fact their review content is now so simplistic and everything revolves around a "score"... it is all a waste of time now personally.

I can't get past the friggin' training level in Splinter Cell. lol

I can't figure out how to select anything in the quick select inventory screen to pick the lock.

And wow. I mean if you're gonna give an old game a fresh coat of HD paint, why ignore the cutscenes?

Edit: Silly me. Go through the rolling metal door not the locked on. I probably didn't even make that mistake 10 years ago or so.

Got the game yesterday for $10 after a couple of trade-ins and I'm loving it so far. I'm starting out on hard and trying to use as little force as necessary to get through the missions. It took me almost 3 hours total to get through the first one... it was great.

Any further comments on this game by those who picked it up? I don't expect the updated graphics to be earth-shattering, but I'd like to know if the gameplay holds up - specifically whether the alleged frame-rate issues are present and noticeable. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I'm still making my way through the first game, but I haven't noticed any frame rate issues at all. I'm having a blast, I forgot how much fun and gratifying these games are.

Chaos Theory looks like a legit PS3 game at times. The lighting is excellent and the gameplay holds up well.

Thanks, I'll have to pick this up once the price drops a bit.

So basically, these games are the ports from the PC versions...... yes?

                        Yep they are PC ports.

They are decent but nowhere near the quality I expected. The frame rates are disappointing for games that are 8 or so years old. I was hoping for a sustained 60fps but it doesn't get close.

Still, the games themselves are brilliant. It's just the porting that is a let down. It might be better to grab them cheap on Steam if you have a decent PC. The experience could be better.

Well, I've already played these on the XB1, but was just thinking of a re-do, though would not want to pay much....good tip.

I just finished playing through the first Splinter Cell game. I liked the concept, but it was pretty tough playing such an outdated game. And the HD retouch was not noticeable, the cutscenes were not very sharp at all. But having never played the series before, I enjoyed it enough.

So Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory are still left to play, I hear good stuff about Chaos Theory, but how is Pandora Tomorrow? I'm not sure if I could make it through another game with as outdated controls as the original game. Will I be missing out on much if I skip the second game and go on to Chaos Theory?

Pandora tomorrow is amazing. I didn't like the HD version on PS3 either, on Xbox 360 you can take the original BC disc and it upconverted better.

But I'm a die hard fan of the series. Pandora tomorrow was truly a good story and a nice ending. Just play through it's a fun ride.

I just within the past week played CT and PT and loved them both....brought back gret memories. All the SC's before Conviction were fantastic.
