Re: Total War: Shogun 2 (PC)
Wow!!!That looks so sick. You will probably need a beast of a PC to run that.EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

Really wanna try this out, but on my rig it would be a slideshow (and not even a fast one at that)....I'm starting to remember why I went away from PC gaming all those years ago...Comment

Re: Total War: Shogun 2 (PC)
Saying that, I just got a new PC that is lightening fast...good ol tax return. Thinking of playing this, but what I really want to play is Empire:TW. Stopped playing it due to CTD and my then current PC wasn;t doing so well with it.
Would you guys recommend this over that? Keep in mind I'm much more interested in the early America/colonial time period.Comment

Totally agree. Too expensive trying to keep up when it comes to PC gaming.

I actually installed it today, and in large part thanks to your thread on the Darthmod. Installed that and am now doing RTI before I get into a campaign.Comment

Re: Total War: Shogun 2 (PC)
Okay, I've been out of the mix for a hot minute when it comes to RTS. I'm expecting that any Total War game will basically be overwhelming the first few weeks. You think it would be too much to jump into a Total War game and which one would you guys recommend honestly? Last one I've really gotten my hands on was Rise of Nations. I play once in a while and still can't get the hang of it like I use to.Comment

I never played Empire, but of the ones I've played Shogun 2 is far and away the best one. Part of this though might just be my fascination with Japanese History and Architecture (Japanese castles are so much cooler than European ones), but the gameplay itself is also just a lot of fun. I also feel like the differences between the factions are more apparent than in other Total War games.
Now that the majority of my school work is done for the semester I was able to play over the weekend and I couldn't stop. I played MP campaign with a friend, and when he had to go I would swap over to my single player campaign. The game is pretty challenging on normal difficulty. In my MP campaign I was fighting back and forth on my starting island, Shimazu clan. There were several points where I wasn't sure if I would be killed off or not, but then I won a key defense of a castle with a smaller force that wiped out one of the opposing armies. I was able to mount a counter attack and now I'm poised to take the main island.Comment

They aren't that hard to get into. Obviously you'll get better with experience, but if you're concerned at all about a learning curve then there are a lot of really good "newbie" guides on the various total war forums.
