    Ninja Gaiden III

    by Jim Reilly LATEST IMAGES

Ninja Gaiden III will make you feel what it's like to cut through someone's bones.

That's what Team Ninja studio head Yosuke Hayashi told us during an interview today. He says the third game, which was first revealed at this past Tokyo Game Show, will give a new meaning to the term "slicing and dicing."

"Ninja Gaiden I was all about cutting people and in Ninja Gaiden II it was about dismembering enemies," Yosuke told IGN. "In Ninja Gaiden III, you're going to experience something new regarding the feeling of cutting people.

"You'll actually feel how it feels to cut through someone; you'll feel the bones breaking. We're going to focus on the feeling of cutting someone more than dismembering them."

Yosuke says it won't be so easy to cut down your enemies this time around. In Ninja Gaiden III, players will actually experience a type of physical resistance when cutting through an enemy.

I loved the "first" one on Xbox. The second one I didn't even finish.

I didn't either, but the game killing update glitch that MS took forever to fix caused that. By the time it got patched like a month later, I had lost my skills, so I said **** it.

The second one just didn't draw me in at all. The combat seemed to have been tweaked and changed unnecessarily. But to be honest, the first one was one of my favorite games of all-time. It was a great combination of many different game play styles and probably one of the most challenging games in the last 10 years.

I liked the original Ninja Gaiden on NES, and I kinda liked the arcade beat-em-up one as well (which had nothing whatsoever to do with the NES version), but while the XBox ones were cool in short stretches, I feel like they all boiled down to basically hitting "x" a whole lot of times in succession....I guess this is an issue with action games in general, which is why I'm generally not that into them, but by the 2nd XBox one it just seemed way out of hand...

That would be over simplifying the combination mechanics. Plus, the game was too difficult to just smash X.

Yeah, I'm probably giving the game short shrift here....I wasn't that into it, as I mentioned, so I'm sure there was much more depth than I suggested. Plus, there was magic and other aspects to the game that added complexity. Anyway, I am still looking forward to what the next one will look like - I think it'd be cool if it was more mano-a-mano tactical fighting, and less fending off of hordes of enemies simultaneously...but then again, that's sort of what the series is known for at this point.

I suppose you could play the game just hitting X on a lower difficulty, but the game is quite hard and involves more than mashing buttons.

                  Re: Ninja Gaiden III

The Ninja Gaiden series isn't half bad. I enjoyed all releases, but when I think Ninja I think more along the lines of stealth. With that being said, I'd prefer current gen version of tenchu.

I'm thinking Metal gear/splinter cell but with a beast *** ninja as the main character. Yea.

The 360 version of tenchu was ok but left much to be desired. Sorry for moving off topic. I had to throw tenchu out there though. It was great.

That all sounds good, but I don't see any reason to take out a more casual difficulty. You can have the game be hard as hell for the old school fans and still give the option to play through with less stress.

                      Stupid move IMO.

Another person who loved the first game but didn't get through the second. I need a ninja dog mode for part 3.
