I completely agree! I was considering going digital because I was playing my PS4 Friday remotely on my vita and thought how cool it would be to switch from one game to the next. That same day I got a $55 dollar gift card from Best Buy and was going to use it on a PS store gift card to purchase a game digitally. The card was $50, so I would've had to add $15 to purchase a game digitally. I'm a member of the gamers club and get games (current & next gen) for 47.99 for the next 2 years with no tax or shipping cost (online). I ended up getting the hard copy of Need for Speed, and a $10 PS store card. I had to pay $2 for the shipment of the card. As long as there are deals like this I'll never go digital.

It just makes no fiscal sense to go digital. One, HDD space will get filled so incredibly fast, you'll constantly have to delete games and redownload later, or buy a bigger HDD. Two, there's no discount, except for some PS Plus sales, but I doubt we see anything good on new PS4 games for awhile. That's the most baffling thing to me. There's no overhead on shipping, manufacturing, paying retailers their cut. There's no reason new games shouldn't be $40-50. And three, there's no trade in value. Over half of my PS4 and the games I bought was covered due to me getting great trade in deals. Plus, I fund a ton of future purchases with trade ins, and there's less risk with buying games. If I don't like it, I can recoup most, if not all of my money depending on where I trade it in.

One of the reason is developers still have to pay the same licensing fee to MS/Sony.. digital or not. Not sure how much that is but it's one of the reasons.
That's why the same games (mostly) that are on PC are cheaper from the start as there are no fees.

Don't forget that the PC is an open marketplace. The consoles are not. If you want a game for your XBone you have to go through XBL. If you want a game for your ps4 you have to go through PSN.

If you want a Steam code for your PC you have Steam, GMG, Amazon, GamersGate and others. You can get (a lot, not all) games DRM-free if you so choose from sites like GOG and stuff.

Those are new releases. GMG constantly has 20-30% off vouchers for pre-ordering games, plus gives credit for ordering with them.

If we're talking console... stuff will never be cheaper digitally until retail chains are cut out of the mix. WalMart, Best Buy, GameStop, etc. will throw a fit and stop carrying stuff if it's made cheaper to get games digitally than it is to pick up a disc in store.

Yeah new release PC games that are cross platform with consoles are cheaper... that's what I said lol... Think we are on same page.. just got a little foggy

And like you said can be found cheaper with coupons etc...

Console digital on release date will never be cheaper than hard copies IMO...

Well never is a strong word but highly unlikely.

I just want them to match the deals retailers offer for physical copies. Retailers drop the price of a game, drop the digital price as well. Retailers offer buy 1 get X off match that in the digital marketplace. That simple.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

I agree 100%. They need to give me an incentive to buy digital considering I wont be able to trade it in at a later date.

Just got email from Amazon they are doing a one day deal on select EA games for PS4 and Xbox One. Looks like it starts at 11 am. Seems like it's for BF4, Madden 25 and FIFA 14. It does show what the price will be yet.

Yes, I am going to be that guy - Why are some of you going Squaretrade compared to Sony or vice versa? I plan on getting one of the other today. I know it's been talked about a ton, but you all know that I dunno too much.
