I wonder why they moved away from being a western. Regardless this game doesn't look very good.

I didn't even notice this game, and I didn't even know they changed it to today's era. I like the action, but - even though I hardly played any of them (just a bit) - seems like it's lost its magic. Doesn't seem like this game is going to be big.
    My Specs:

    ZX Spectrum
    CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
    GPU: Monochrome display
    RAM: 48 KB
    OS: Sinclair BASIC

I was beginning to wonder how long it would take for a video game to be made that would exploit the whole California/Mexico border mess.

Watching it again, I may have changed my mind... This does look sort of cool.

So they took a perfectly good western game and made it modern. Instead of horses, you have cars.......

That's like having RDR in modern times. Wouldn't have the same feel for me driving around instead of riding around on horse back.

It looks ok but what exactly does this have to do with the Gold of Juarez. Isnt that what the whole series was about and whoever looks for it is cursed???

Can't believe they left the Western theme. Won't be touching it. Why can't we get more western games!?

I had this in a Gamefly envelope in my mailbox this afternoon and it is the worst game I have played in a very long time.

Re: Call Of Juarez: The Cartel

                            Where to start.

Graphically the game lacks polish. Character models are ok but animations (especially facial animations) are horrible. They have bloom and motion blur turned up to 11 making everything hard to see at any reasonable distance, when aiming you can't see what you are aiming at. Speaking of the bloom, the entire game feels like it's played in a thick fog with a noonday sun, in the beginning you go down a zipline and what should be a sky-high ride through the treetops turns into seeing the tops of trees silouetted in milk, with the screen going all white several times. Car models are just bad, they look a decade old.

Gameplay, I've already said the aiming is annoying, but the game keeps telling you to get behind cover without any cover mechanic whatsoever. AI is dumb and simply run back and forth shooting constantly at you. All told it plays like an old budget title (if you can remember the days when Walmart shelves were chock full of $20 FPS). They make you drive, first person in drivers seat, with no mirrors and no discernible way to look around, first thing I was able to do on my own was to pull out in front of a semi there was no way to know was coming and die.

The story is kind of a mess. You start off in an SUV riding down the interstate shooting at other SUVs full of enemies shooting back. Then it flashes back 3 weeks (months, whatever) and you sit in a briefing with some convoluted nonsense about a Mexican cartel buying guns, US government threatening to invade Mexico, president giving you time to solve the problem, some stuff about some Vietnam vets, I don't know it's kind of nonsense. So you get the option of playing as three people, the FBI agent that for some reason is an expert in rifles and dual wielding SMGs, there is a female DEA agent that is a sniper and an LAPD officer who is a vietnam vet that for some reason dresses like John Marston with a bullet proof vest and is a pistols expert (I guess it's to make the game "western"). First mission you are to take out a massive pot growing operation in a national park, and while doing it you put gang tags around to inexplicably set up some other gang.

The biggest WTF moment, for some reason the FBI agent wears an Obama mask during missions. They didn't even explain that one, he just suddenly looks like the Green Goblin.

I just bought this game for $6.00 yesterday. I like to give games a chance, but this game takes the cake for worst game I might have ever played, lol. It seems like it was thrown together quickly. I'm only at the 1st mission and I'm not impressed so far.
                              PS3, we had a good run! (7/18/09-10/5/14)
