And here’s another rumor for you today: A UK gaming magazine is claiming that Heavenly Sword 2 is in the works.

According to PlayGamer (via The Silent Chief), the next game will be set 10 years after the first one, and is an open-world sandbox title.

Missions will be replayable within an interactive environment, and you will have to earn the famous sword in the game by mastering various different disciplines of martial arts.

The magazine suggests players will start out with basic hand-to-hand combat before moving onto more intense physical combat learnings before being able to wield the Heavenly Sword.

More information at E3 is expected according to the article.

A job listing for Sony Santa Monica hints at their new game being an open-world. Coincidence?

Awesome news. Not so sure about the open world idea, as I think the whole fixed-camera, god of war style works best for these games, but we'll see.

Heavenly Sword 2 Was In Development, Now Canceled

A sizzle real by a former Sony employee showcases some PlayStation 3 exclusives that have been shelved.

The video by animator Martin Binfield shows off several games that shipped, including LittleBigPlanet PSP, MediEvil Resurrection, and the original Heavenly Sword. We also get a look at some canceled games, including The Getaway 3, an unnamed sci-fi game, and another called "Lifestyle Project"

His online resume also lists work on Heavenly Sword 2, which was put on the shelf in 2008. Developer Ninja Theory went on to make Enslaved instead.

I agree that the game should stay as a GOW style type.

Figure it was in development a few years ago and got cancelled, maybe now they changed their minds.

I haven't played the retail, only the demo version but Heavenly Sword was one of the first PS3 games that caught my eye. It wasn't really terrible like I first thought it was, it just came off as a female God of War. I hope they be creative enough and pick back up on this project.
