hdtv's and burn in?

just contacted toshiba with a ? about the hdtv i bought, i got the answer i was looking for but then she went on to say that they did not recommend video games being played for long periods of time as fixed images could result in burn in on the screen which are not covered by warranty, has anyone heard of or experienced this happening, i'm wondering what is meant by "long" periods of time, thanks.

Had a computer monitor burn in on me once about 8 years ago.

Ever been to a video arcade and seen some of the games with flat screen monitors have burned in, usually with some text like "Insert Coins"?

basically don't pass out while playing, lol, did a search on crt direct view tv's and i think all hdtv's are in that boat, so i guess just use comman sence and give it a rest once in a while, funny they even put PIP in a tv then tell you if burn in results your not covered by warranty

i just bought a 51" Toshiba Projection TV and sent the same email as you did to Toshiba....they said it will burn, so i have never tried using my PS2 on it, but i really want to...it probably isnt worth taking the risk, espcially on a $3000 TV

It is perfectly fine to play games on any rear projection TV. Just don't leave a game paused or play for a really, really long time in one sitting. It would seriously take a really long time of one image being onscreen for it to burn in like they say.

The thing a lot of people don't realize is that burn in will happen on any tv, no matter what you watch or play. The key thing is that you want the phosphors to burn EVENLY so that there is no visible "image" burnt permanently onto the screen. That is where games come in.

Most games have something on the screen that is always there, no matter what level or screen you are on. These are the things that are liable to get burnt in.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you play games on it for like 8 hours a day every day, by the time burn in would even become an issue, you will have probably bought a new TV.
