How to pitch a game to a develpor??

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but should be close enough.

Bascially, after playing RAW 2, I was extremely dissapointed. There has just been no wrestling games that really capture the story-line developments of your character, both back-stage and in-match.

After really thinking about how to rectify this, and after playing KOTOR for a while, I have mapped out in my head the blueprint for an absolutley mind-dropping wrestling game.

I won't go into the details just yet, but please have faith when I say I have really REALLY come-up with something special.

Usually, I would never bother going any further than keeping it as my own fantasy, but I really think this idea could seriously become a great game.

Anyway, how would you go about pitching an idea to a developer? Is there a cetain way you can go about things?

I'll write out my game idea in full, as well, so you can guys can see if you like it.

why not write an e-mail to some game developers telling them that you've got an idea for a game and asking them who you should talk to about it?

Wrong. This is impossible. Many people have tried this and failed. Nowadays publishers give out millions of dollars for a single game and they want to know if their investment is sound. The first thing they will ask is if youve ever put out a successful title before and once you say 'no', the door will be closed and that will be that.

This is very credible because I have heard countless stories on forums for independent game developers (like gamedev.net) as well as talking to actual guys in the biz who did this many years ago (like the president and co-founder of Treyarch Entertainment) all saying that you can try this and follow through but it won't pan out.

The only thing you can do is get yourself a computer science or computing and the arts degree and make yourself a game demo (though some places dont require it when applying) to apply to some established game companies to work for. Use this to get a reputation in the biz and make some contacts. Then you can branch yourself out and start your own game company to be able to make whatever you want, provided your team agrees with you.

Sorry for the discouraging news but fact is video games are no longer a one-man art.

At the very least, you have to have a VERY VERY detailed design document. Once you have that, you might have better luck. I'm not talking just concept here. Details details details. Go over to any of the popular "mod" forums (for quake, HL etc..) there are dozens of "great, next best thing ideas" everyday.
