Re: Analyst: Take-Two Now Very Attractive To Possible Buyers

Well, we've gotten two Dragon Age games every other year and will have the last two Mass Effects released within a couple years of each other - don't think it's that much of a stretch.

Would guess Take-Two's asking price has gone up exponentially with the success of Rockstar's new IPs, as well as the surprising success of other titles. While EA's done very well quality-wise of late with what it's published (I'd add Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Crysis 2, Bulletstorm as really good titles EA's recently published) I'd hate to see them (or Activision) get Take-Two. Just don't think it's good for the industry because big companies want to get bigger. Without any type of regulation the larger companies are going to swallow everything around them, meaning less competition, which is never good from a consumer perspective. And with these companies trying to maximize profits as much as they can, nickle and diming consumers - I just heard Activision's trying to push some sort of "elite" online service for CoD - eventually the consumer ends up losing out in the end imo. Consumers already have less discretionary cash to pay for other games and the market as a whole suffers (again, imo). There's very little competition within sports gaming now; it'd be non-existent if EA got Take-Two.

I'd guess Take-Two's asking price would be really high right now with Rockstar on a Pixar-like streak.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

I like EA. I actually enjoy most of their sports games. Am I let down by Madden? Sure. But if we are going to call EA out for not putting up good stuff with Madden, 2K Sports is up next for MLB 2K and they fall under T2.

EA is a publisher with various devs under their company. You can take a first attempt game like EA MMA and applaud it for the things they did that non one else has done and really give EA a positive. Then you can take NBA Live and scratch your head.

But if you look at EA in their completeness, they put out a good variety of quality games.

As far as T2 goes, they turned down EA's bid a few times.

          Hating on EA is old.

Activision is now the creatively bankrupt company making mountains of cash by beating franchises into the ground. They literally only have CoD and WoW in their portfolio, and I could see them interested in Take Two..

although this is the same analyst speculation we hear every year.

I don't think anyone hates good games. But imo you can hate the business practices. That's what a lot of people don't like about the bigger publishers, that they're so focused on making more money that consumers are the ones that catch it in the end. I see some people try to justify it but in the end they're trying to defend things that aren't in their own best self-interests.

You're right. How dare a company do everything they morally can to make more money for share holders. They should say, "eh, that's enough", stop trying to make money, and just try to make people happy (except shareholders, who pay their salaries). Even though failure to try and make more money gets people fired here in the real world.

There's two sides to that, and unfortunately the side of profit gets more weight. You can look at several avenues of business and see how chasing the dollar waters down creativity and quality. Wal-Mart does a great job of growing their company and changing with the times to adapt to financial pressures and growth challenges, but their produce sucks. They get it in such high volume that by the time it hits the shelf it's almost rotten. Somewhere along the line growth took precedence over quality.

The driving force behind these publishers is profit. For Take Two, EA and Activision it's more of a burden. And so their approach is to have focus groups and marketing meetings to see how they can continuously secure revenue. I'm all for a company making profit, but if you look at the history of various major companies, when they grow they lose their uniqueness and often sacrifice quality.
