Re: Far Cry 3
Just booted it up for the first time and let the game choose my optimal graphics settings. It set everything to very high and dx11. It was then no surprise that I was getting 10fps in the opening scene.
I bumped it down to medium and am averaging 25-30 through the opening section. Annoyingly I can't seem to get dx9 to stick. I've set it in the menu and restarted the game but afterburner tells me it's still running dx11. Considering the apparent performance toll this takes it could be an issue.
Next step is overclocking my GPU and maybe bumping down the resolution. I hate doing this though as anything other than native looks bad on my laptop screen.
The good news is it does run on lower end set ups! I've got a Dell XPS 17, core i7 2.2ghz, 8gig of ram and a gt555m running on windows 7 64 bit. This is a very modest gaming laptop but is still giving me a better experience than my 360 or PS3 at this point. Hopefully I won't need to upgrade for another 12-18 months. This was the game I was most nervous about so fingers crossed I can play through the campaign with minimal issues.Comment

Re: Far Cry 3
Ok, I am in and playing (xbox 360). I just got attacked by a freakin snake slithering through the grass as I was on my way somewhere. This has the dynamic feel of Red Dead Redemption how random stuff happens. They have obviously been influenced by that game for other things too.
Gun play feels good, I like it better than FC 2 and driving is much better. I tried to ram a buffalo or bison or whatever it was in a car from behind and nearly followed it over the cliff haha.
Guys who like hunting will probs find lots to like here. Guys who like stuffing about will surely find heaps of fun here. The game world is awesome. Kind of like Dead Island, FC 2, Just Cause 2, Red Dead all mashed up and bringing the goods.Last edited by 18 eighty 5; 11-29-2012, 08:16 AM.We are the music makers...Comment

Re: Far Cry 3
My tactic was to lob a rock in the direction I wanted the enemy to investigate, wait till he was in position and then perform a take down. Worked like a charm on the first three but the remaining ai grew suspicious and both came to check it out. They noticed the bodies, weren't very pleased about it and began to search and a short game of cat n mouse ensued.
I killed them both but blew my cover doing so.
Now, on a couple of occasions I deliberately tried standing directly in the line of sight of the ai to see what would happen. With stealth and detection there is a meter that fills up in the middle of the screen indicating that you have been detected but cover won't be blown unless the meter has been filled. It looks like it takes about two seconds to fill right up giving a brief opportunity to find cover.
The ai tends to wander around set pathways often chattering or saying funny stuff.
...
Have progressed a bit further into the game, doing a side mission. Approaching a bottle neck of enemies and they have a dog!! It was a long way off from me but I wanted to see what the dog does so I threw a rock. The dog bolted down the road toward the sound but then stopped and began growling in my direction. He was still a considerable way off standing in the middle of the road growling. Before I could find out more, a vehicle loaded with goons came down the road and squished the bloody dog haha!Last edited by 18 eighty 5; 11-29-2012, 08:31 AM.We are the music makers...Comment

Re: Far Cry 3
Sorry, for multiple posts but the game has clearly taken ideas from other big titles and uses them to great effect. We are the music makers...Comment

Re: Far Cry 3
Ok, ok one more. I am loving the random encounters in this game. Stuff that had nothing to do with the story or even side quests.
At times you will be on the side of a road walking along and you will hear a jeep coming. You can duck behind some foliage and hide, wait, take some shots, get their attention and then play hide n seek in the jungle.
Whereas in FC 2 once the ai spotted you they never lost sight of you no matter how far away or where you tried to hide in FC 3 I am very happy to say this is not the case. The ability to quickly hide and ambush the ai is serious fun and creates a game within the game that has nothing to do with completing the game!! On top of this, whilst dealing with the ai during these shoot outs, living creatures in the jungle can get involved too.
This is shaping up to be a really cool open world shooter. We are the music makers...Comment

Re: Far Cry 3
Thanks! Based on your impressions, the stealth is already better than some of the other stealth releases this year.Comment

Re: Far Cry 3
Seems that not only is the world huge but the AI and the ways you can approach every situation is unique. Not to mention you throw in the Animals that can make any encounter unique or different.Last edited by Candyman5; 11-29-2012, 08:36 PM.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os
