    Anybody Use Gamefly?

It's an online rental where you pay 22 dollars a month rent two games and get them as long for an extended period of time.

    I don't if it's any good?

Loved it and had two accounts. Have a review written for OS that Steve never put up. Here it is.

    Gamefly Review…

I am going to go against the grain and review a company in the gaming industry instead of a game. Over the last few months I had been hearing about this company called Gamefly and renting games via the internet. I asked about the service on the message board, Terry from the staff chimed in that he used it and was extremely happy with their service. Upon that advice I started a Gamefly account.

Those of you that use Netflix will be familiar with the Gamefly business model. In fact the sites look very much alike, even though they are not affiliated. You can have two games out for $21.95 a month. Gamefly pays for the shipping both ways US Mail as the game comes in an envelope that opens up and becomes the return envelope with postage paid. As long as you pay the $21.95 a month you can keep the games as long or as short a period as you wish. Gamefly is out of California so you do have to factor in shipping time. To Texas I would normally get a game in 3 business days and they would get it back in 4-5 days. While you are returning one game you have the other to play. They utilize a “Q” where you put games you are interested in. As you return a game the next available game you list will be sent out. If you want more then two games you can have multiple accounts but it does require a different credit card and e-mail address for each extra account. They are looking into Pay Pal and having single accounts with up to 3 games in the future.

Of course it all sounds good but how well do they take care of my account? This is the area I was the most pleased. When I went into getting Gamefly I had planned on doing a review so I decided to put their customer service through hell. I was the customer you talk about when you get home from work and vent to anyone who will listen. I started and stopped my service multiple times. Constantly checked on the status of my shipments even though it is all provided on the internet. I had games that took 4-5 business days to get back and in some cases they actually sent out the next game in my “Q”. I had games that were scratched but still worked and asked for another copy, no problem they sent one right out. They went out of their way, bent over backwards and every other catch phrase you can insert here ___ to assist me.

On average I find myself going through 4 games a month using this service which would normally cost me up to $200 at a store. Gamefly saves me at the least a hundred dollars a month by not having to purchase action/adventure games, it also allows to try games I normally would never purchase. I have always been one keep my sports games so I still go to the store and purchase those. Yet with other genres I tend to beat them in a week or two and sell them back at the gamestore at a substantial loss.

You also have a free 10 day trial period, so if you are interested in this type of service I highly recommend them. No review score just a big two thumbs up and kudos to Kelly and Julian who are in the customer service dept at Gamefly for putting up with everything I did to them. Good customer service is hard to find these days, especially on the internet.

    ---

Oh and I did stop using the service last week because I am getting to work a shift at the new Gamespot in town which means discounts on games and you can take them home and rent them. If that ever ends I would go right back to gamefly.

          Re: Anybody Use Gamefly?

I've been doing it for about 2 months now and love it. It lets me try all the sports games when they're released, although I am still waiting for someone to return an ESPN NHL so I can get my hands on that, which is actually the first time I've wanted to rent a game and they didn't have any readily available to send out. This system should easily save me money since usually after 3 weeks of playing a game I'm bored with it anyway, now I'll just buy games like ESPN Football that I know I'll be playing all year and the rest I rent.

Living in CA they usually get the game the day after I send it back, and ship it out to me that day, so it's a 3-4 day proccess to get the next game when I send one back.

I've been using it almost a year, gone through roughly 50 games. I have a 3 day turnaround on anything...I put a game in the mail, 3 days later I have my new game.

The only downside is that you're waiting 4 or 5 days after a game is released to play it...so while you're reading all these impressions and whatnot for a week, by the time you get your game you already have an idea of what to expect, instead of that anticipation you get with a brand new title that you take the shrinkwrap off of.

Either way, it's saved me $1,000's of dollars already on non-sports games that I'd beat in a couple days and leave sitting on a shelf.
