    Weird PS2 controller moment

So today I was sitting down and decided to play some Madden except the controls were all screwy like players were diving all over the place on offense and on defense the controlled player would shift from player to player as if one were quickly cycling through the players.

I had to unplug the controller and plug it back in to solve the problem. What in the world could cause a problem like that?

    Thanks.

I think if the analog sticks are not centered (meaning they're being pushed in a direction) when the system is turned on you get weird stuff like that. I remember my friend's N64 would do that, haven't seen it on my PS2 yet though. That's the only thing I could think of right now

Yea, console systems have an "auto-calibration" system on all the analog sticks for controllers. (Notice how there is no manual way to calibrate them). If they are not centered upon bootup, the new position will be seen as "center".
