Some theaters removing more arcade games

"Regal Cinema Bans Violent Video Games
Regal Entertainment Group CEO Mike Campbell has announced that the company – the US’s largest movie theatre circuit – is banning any video game from its lobby that contains graphical violence, obscenity or sexual behavior.

The company claims the move is due to complaints from parents, although it has refused to name any of the titles involved. The move is certainly curious since it is difficult to think of any recent arcade games with sexual ‘behavior’ in them and indeed even graphically violent games are relatively rare compared to several years ago.

Paranoia has run amok. I could understand this move if it was the early-mid 90s when STREET FIGHTER and MORTAL KOMBAT were all the rage but Arcade games are no longer popular these days. The only real arcade games that are thriving are the dance games and retro side scrollers.

I wonder what games they're talking about too. The only game that comes from the top of my head is Time Crisis but that doesnt have any blood, just "flashes".

I was just recently at a Dave and Buster's. The popular games were multiplayer driving games and stuff like "Mo-cap Boxing". There was one guy playing at the dance game all the way in the back of the place.

The days of the good ol arcade coin machines are dead anyway. There is'nt any urge for ppl to run to arcardes. Nothing really innovative since the consoles took over. I was in Dave and Busters not to long ago also, and like you said, the most popular were the driving games and the dance crap.

What these places need is some sort of VR games. Mechwarrior, Virtual Laser Tag, something that will put arcades back on the map.

....or someone could just be smart and open a retro arcade, with nothing but games from the golden era (early 80's) up until the early 90's, when the rapid decline came.

I think it would be pretty cool to be able to walk in and see nothing but Pac Man, Asteroids, Paperboy, Spy Hunter and a ton of other classics.
