Cheerleader (from San Romero high school) with chainsaw vs. Zombies.

Warner Bros. picks up Lollipop Chainsaw

Grasshopper Manufacture's cheerleader-versus-zombie action game, Lollipop Chainsaw, will be released outside of Japan in 2012, thanks to Warner Bros. Interactive. The publisher announced a new partnership with Lollipop's Japanese publisher, Kadokawa Games. That seems like a good match -- both companies are media conglomerates who have only recently expanded into games.

Warner is using those media connections to bring in some Hollywood talent: writer/director James Gunn (Slither, Dawn of the Dead) will "bring his cult humor and edgy storytelling to Lollipop Chainsaw." Considering that the Suda 51 game already appears to be 100% cult humor ... that's a lot of cult humor.

If WB is putting this much effort and cash into the writing, it seems possible that the company could go so far as to market the game, something that didn't fully happen with Grasshopper's last game.
My new video game with Suda51 & Grasshopper: Lollipop Chainsaw

About a year ago, Warner Bros came to me and asked me if I wanted to be involved with a video game, Lollipop Chainsaw, being developed by the great Goichi Suda AKA Suda51 and Grasshopper. They showed me some test footage of the chainsaw-wielding high school cheerleader and I was blown away by its mix of graphic violence, fun, and glittery goodness. Right away I signed on, and helped them to develop a story, dialogue, and characters with James Gunn style and humor while keeping that Suda51/Grasshopper no-holds-barred edge.

Lollipop Chainsaw is the story of young, beautiful zombie-killer Juliet Starling, her sidekick disembodied-head boyfriend, and the entire Starling family of zombie killers as they team up to stop a colossal zombie outbreak. Leading the zombies are a group of zombie rock and roll lords who do battle with Juliet. The game is complete madness, and I love it. Lollipop Chainsaw will be here in the U.S. on XBox and PS3 within the next year.

What did I do? I was involved with crafting the story, and helping to create the characters, and writing the dialogue – this was not only stuff that affects the English translation of the game, but the heart of the game itself – so yes, the Japanese version has my imprint on it as well. I also worked with the American actors and voice artists to create the characters.

Also, I’ll let you know a little secret that hasn’t come out in any of the press releases… but many of the the folks who you see regularly in my films and other projects also have roles to play in Lollipop Chainsaw. I’ll just leave you with that little tease for the moment, but it’s something that made the project even more fun.

23 seconds...she has someone's head taped to her butt and there's a hobo that appears to be holding a shark. Alrighty. This should be fun no matter how the actual gameplay is.

This is weird, but looks fun aswell to play. Just not for 60$. I'm sure some lonely guys are willing to pay just for the excitement of a cartoon female with a cheerleading outfit on running around with a chainsaw killing Zombies. But not me. LOL

It looks fun as hell to play. I could care less if the lead character is a guy or girl. Suda51 and Grasshopper seem like they know how to make off-the-wall, loony and fun games.

Suda51 games have the habit of going down in price fast. Looks like a fun game to pick up for cheap.

So you'd rather run around in a cheerleading outfit killing zombies with a chainsaw as Frank West?
