Dota 2 Championships: First Public Showing at gamescom

Valve today announced The International. This tournament will be the first time Dota 2 is shown in public, and will take place August 17th -21st at gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

The International features the 16 best Dota teams in the world competing in the Dota 2 Championships through a group stage, double elimination playoff format over the course of Cologne’s five-day trade show.

The tournament will be broadcast in four languages (Chinese, German, Russian, and English) free of charge. The winning team will receive $1 million.

“The International is the first public Dota 2 event and will give the tens of millions of gamers playing Dota around the world their first look at the new game,” said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. “I have had the good fortune to watch the competitors as they prepare for the tournament, and the level of play is extraordinary.”

In addition to the cash prizes awarded by Valve, NVidia is providing all the hardware for the event.

Dota 2 will be available for the PC and Mac later this year.

Matchmaking needs to be spot on and the ruthlessness of the community needs to be monitored as this game can be a killer for new people to try and get into.

For sure. I just got into LoL and HoN and HoN was brutal. People act so childish it isn't even funny. Good thing that there will be bots for DOTA 2.

That way I can get trained up a lot better than HoN.

You guys have any hints for improving the performance? I tried running it but my lap top was having a lot of trouble. LoL and HoN usually run on it with no hiccups though.

No, I didn't actually. I will look for that.

EDIT: I am still having issues with the frame rate and the overall performance. Oh well.

RE-EDIT: I just Vsynced, the game is playable now!!! I really like that there are bots. I might actually learn to play the game now.

how do I know if I got a beta invite? I didn't see an email, but when I check my account settings on steam it says I have one available beta. I am brand new to steam so I don't know how to manage the program or website. It's probably very unlikely I actually did in the beta, I guess I'm just curious what that one available beta thing means.

so I got in the beta. Does anybody know if I'm bound by an NDA from the EULA? I didn't read the EULA but other than that was not presented with an NDA. If not I would be happy to discuss Dota 2. Spoiler: It's a lot of fun.
