Here are my thoughts after 2 hours of play:
1) Bottom Line: It's really more of the same with a few twists. If these twists make it worth it to you is up to you
2) Twist 1: Environment: The game has more of a sci-fi theme to it although so far I have yet to see it heavily implemented. Deathspank's lair is a hoot, but you only spend a few seconds there. I would have liked to have seen some more high tech themes in the beginning. The world, so far, reminds me more of Fallout than Star Wars.
3) Twist 2: Pacing: I have found this game to have a faster pace than the other two. In the first one, it seemed like the path between areas was a little long. In Baconing you are quickly transitioning from one area to the other. I like the pacing a lot. It's fast moving and involves (for a DS game) a variety of quests. You've got loot chasing, going into a photography side quest, going into an arena side quest, into a fetch quest, etc.
4) Twist 3: The loot. Personally, I have always found the loot variety a little lacking in DS. So far I like the variety and creativity of the loot including one set of armor that makes DS look like one of the Sand People from Star Wars.
5) Finally: The humor. Ron Gilbert was not involved with this game, but I think people have a mistaken belief that Ron writes everything in a game he is involved in. I have found the Baconing to be the same as the other games when it comes to laugh. I chuckle a bit and every now and then something gets a bigger laugh. I find the voice over actors add a lot more to the humor of the game.
After 2 hours of play time I am glad I purchased the Baconing. It's not a masterpiece of gaming, but it has been fun so far.
