Re: Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection (PS3)

    Oh hot damn!

Thanks for posting this Flawless... it has me all like this now...

Perhaps we aren't quite seeing the level of attention put into the overall remastering work that we saw in the superb God of War Collection: Volume II, but it's safe to say that the class and quality of the original games more than makes up for it.
I will add though, the reason GoW - Volume 2 looks like it does, is due to the fact it is running on newer tech and hardware to begin with, and the "source material" was much closer to high def tech and scaled back to PSP resolutions, etc. So the remastering was much "easier" to achieve the quality. Back when these games were made, the access to that was not taken advantage of or used, hence why the first GoW (GoW1/2) does not look as good as the newest collection. It is all about technology of the time.

The reverse sides are the Japanese covers, correct? Looks so sick! If you haven't played through them before, does it matter which game you start with?

          Correct about the covers.

Does not matter which you start with "story wise"... SotC is a "spiritual successor" but not a sequel.

But I would start with ICO first just for design purposes, then SotC just to see how they progressed with mechanics at the time.

With the release of The ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection just a week away, I’m still in awe over how awesome the remastered games look and sound. If you’re on the fence about the collection, know that, so far, it has an average score of 91 out of 27 reviews. Game Informer gave it a 9.75, Destructoid a 9.5, Games Radar a 9.0, GamePro a 4.5 out of 5, and IGN an 8.5.

The games are fantastic in their own right, whether you’ll be playing them for the first time or have already played the originals. But I think you’re also really going to dig the fantastic bonus content we’ve packed onto the disc.

Not only do you get to enjoy seeing early concept and prototype footage of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, we’ve also included the original concept video for NICO. If you’ve never heard of NICO, it was the second game from Fumito Ueda and team, and was going to be an online game where groups of hunters tracked, scaled and slayed giant beasts together. That game was never made, but key ideas from it formed the basis for what would become Shadow of the Colossus.

In addition, there are two brand new original videos included on the disc. One is a 20+ minute round-table discussion between key members of the development team, creator Fumito Ueda, Kenji Kaido (producer) and Junichi Hosono (designer). They openly discuss what it was like to make these games, difficulties and challenges they faced, and even the original US packaging for ICO.

And last but not least is a 12-minute behind-the-scenes developer video filmed on location at the Sony Computer Entertainment Japan’s offices in Shinagawa. This video features interviews with key production staff members about the making of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, their thoughts on this new HD collection, as well as concept art and prototype footage from all the games. You’ll also watch some never-before-seen footage from The Last Guardian.

Above, you can watch a short sneak peek at some of the cool bonus video content you can look forward to next week when you pick up the game for yourself on September 27th. I hope you enjoy the bonus content on the disc as much as we did putting it all together for you. Don’t forget to check out the preview of the collection in this month’s episode of Qore as well.

Which game are you more excited to play in HD for the first time — ICO or Shadow of the Colossus?

One more week!!! This preview video just gave me nostalgia, and goose bumps as soon as it showed The Last Guardian!

I was just at Walmart during lunch and they had this out for sale, must have been a mistake on their part so this is YMMV. I didn't pick it up since I have more than enough games right now to work on but might add it to my GF que.

Definitely gonna pick this up. I wanted to play Shadow of the Colossus for so long, but never pulled the trigger on getting it.

Re: Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection (PS3)

Shadow is one of my favorite games ever. I was on vacation at the lake and brought my PS2 and some rented games to just pass the time at night when the mosquitos went nuts or if I had drank too much. I ended up spending most of the week playing through SoC with my entire family gathered around watching my every move. I still remember it took about 4 college educated people to figure out how to climb the last boss. We are started jumping up and down after I beat the game. Truly a classic gaming moment for me.

The remake is a definite for me.

That is the plan, going to rent it from GF and just purchase at a cheaper price from them a few weeks down the road.

I do that from time to time. Saves a lot of money.
