Re: Jak and Daxter HD Collection

It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since Jak and Daxter found their way onto PlayStation 2 and into the gaming world. We are delighted at the place the franchise has found amongst the gaming community and the mark it has left on the platformer genre in particular. Given that we’re so close to [...]

With each outing in the Jak and Daxter series, we set out to create a game that offered the player a new experience that built on the previous game. As you go from Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy to Jak 3, the story will connect across the titles as the gameplay and technical aspects of the games and the tools used to create them evolved. From being on foot in Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy to the hoverboard and morph gun in Jak II to the dune buggies in Jak 3, new gameplay ideas were always in play and being fleshed out and amped up. On the technical side, for instance, Jak 3 featured a new terrain renderer that included bump-mapping, which is now a commonplace element in rendering terrain. Cloth dynamics and rag-doll physics, also standard features in many modern games, were new developments by the time that Jak 3 was released in 2004.

I Cannot Wait to Replay Jak and Daxter
Yeah, I'm a fanboy, but these games are awesome.

The three games in the collection are noteworthy for technical achievements in their day (The Precursor Legacy holds the honor of the first disc-based game without loading screens, which is f#%&ing nuts). But they're also just really fun platformers that embody a genre of gaming that seems to have passed. The upgrade to HD is more noticeable than I thought, though more striking is just seeing how each game improved visually from the previous entry.

Jak and Daxter Collection Hits PS3 February 7th, 100+ Trophies to Collect

The wait is almost over, Jak and Daxter fans! I’m happy to announce that Jak and Daxter Collection launches in North America on February 7th. In a few short weeks you’ll be able to score the first three installments of the Jak and Daxter trilogy in one complete PS3 Blu-ray package for just $39.99.

Each game has been fully remastered to feature 720p HD visuals and stereoscopic 3D functionality, and one of the coolest new additions to the titles in Jak and Daxter Collection is the introduction of Trophy support.

When the series debuted on PS2 over 10 years ago, we didn’t have Trophies. For our jump to PS3, Mass Media crafted custom Trophies for you to earn for all three titles in the collection. The team at Mass Media has created intricate Trophies, each featuring a unique variation on a design theme based around its mission type. There are over 100 to collect including three Platinum Trophies, so you completionists will have hours of Trophy-hunting fun to look forward to.

This is like the Ico collection on release day, nearly impossible to find. I found a GS near me that has one left, hopefully its there when I get there later. They were going to hold it till close, let's see.

Playing the first one for the first time. It's a lot of fun, better than Sly. Needs a world map though.

downloaded the collection off psn. I remember enjoying these games a lot back in the day, but i never beat them(just rented em' a good amount). The games are awesome though, and i'm pretty impressed with how good they look with the hd treatment. Glad i bought the collection.

I'm looking at picking these games up for my kids. What other game do these games compare to? I've never played a Jak & Daxter game before.

The first one is somewhat super marioish with vehicle segments. I think the second and third are more Ratchet and Clankish with weapons, vehicle segments and platforming. They are some of my favorite games of all times. I love the collection and it looks nice in 3d

I seriously forgot how hard it was to get all the damn orbs haha, but still I recommend it to any of you trophy fiends/Naughty Dog fans/ Jak & Daxter.
Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather.

The jak and Dax games are great but those damn collectibles are tedious. I was a huge Crash fan on ps1 era and it sucks that the game left ND's hands. You can see a lot of Crash in the first Jak and Dax game which is cool. The one thing I hate about this first game is the camera, swinging on those posts is terrible and the collectibles are insane. Other than that still loving this game and I had totally forgotten about some these design issues from back when this released.

As you guys play through these, you see a lot of things that would become uncharted for the better.

Ok - since I was mainly a sports gamer during my PS2 days, I never played this series and after reading impressions/watching videos, I HAD to pick this up.

I just wrapped up the first one and all I can say is, this game is fantastic and should NOT be missed for those that have a PS3.

Loved every minute of it and I'm certainly looking forward to 2 & 3.

One other thing, Daxter is ****ing hilarious!

I'm copying this from the trophy thread since part of this goes in here too:

I will say Brett, Jak 1 is not the easiest platinum and a lot of work for the collectibles and some dodgy design where you keep falling off ledges at times. Hell, Sly Cooper is a cake walk in the park when compared to this.

It was quite cool, my wife walks into the room and asks for a second if this was tied to Crash Bandicoot since Jak moves so much like Crash. I told her that ND had developed original Crash and then the Jak franchise. How much I would love for ND to get a crack at Crash again.

I will definitely agree there were moments when I wanted to throw my controller threw the screen but the positives FAR outweighed the negatives, IMO.
