Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
The opening scenes were amazing! I felt like I was in a movie... it's games like this that make me wonder why more games don't have this immersion factor.Comment

SpoilerThe only time this has happened to me so far is the part where you cross a road trying to get her to the capital building. There is a bunch of soldiers looking for you and you have to try and distract them but I could never get it to work. Haven't had that much trouble since though. The Ohio State University

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
Only played the beginning partSpoilerstopped after escaping with Ellie and Tess.
The opening scenes were awesome and the story so far is fantastic. I'm really impressed with the dialogue and overall quality of the voice acting. One small thingSpoilerI kind of felt the "why" behind leaving with Ellie, though not a real shocker (I kind of suspected her being a potential cure/carrier of sorts even during the previews), was revealed a bit early though. A minor gripe, I guess, as they can still fill in details later and the story as a whole shouldn't suffer or anything.
I like the sense of weight to the controls and how natural everything feels. My only gripe is with follower AI. It was touted as being great, and it seems good enough (though nothing stands out so far) with one follower. I found it a mess during
Spoilerthe escape with Ellie and Tess. They both kept fighting for cover and one would invariably just run in circles in the open if they both wanted the same spot. It made dodging the guards impossible and broke the immersion a bit. I had to do the classic "dog on a leash" and kind of pop out and lead them to reset back into cover.
It's early though, so we'll see on that. The overall experience is very fluid and I can't wait to really dive into the meat of the game as I know I've only scratched the surface.Last edited by SoxFan01605; 06-15-2013, 08:20 AM.Comment

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)
SpoilerThe first sequence where Joel has to take on the 3 runners and 1 clicker all by himself.
And I absolutely agree. Me too!
One thing is for sure. I need to sloooooww down. Played for about 3 hours and have been kicking myself ever since. No joke. If I don't begin to play smarter and more realistic, I am going to force the probable GOTY to become a combat game which is CLEARLY NOT the (beautiful) intention of it.
Play smart, Heroes. Relax and think!Comment

The biggest adjustment for me has been conserving ammo. I've taken hits in places where I normally wouldn't because I'd just empty my 250 rounds of AK-47 into a bunch of chests.
Seeing how amazing it is just to find four freaking bullets hanging around has forced me to become economical with my supplies.
However, every stealth game still gives you the ammo-out. You get caught, you just explode on enemies. I can't do that here and I admit it's a learning curve to actually get up on guys and punch them.
Making things more difficult is the lack of health aid. I thought it was bad enough in Max Payne 3, but it's worse here. Health is rarer than a dollar bill.
Anyway Im only just now going to start traveling with Elle. I haven't died or suffered massive damage in any way, but I can already tell that my regular video game strategy is getting thrown out the window or I won't last.
Love it.
