Re: The Last of Us (PS3)

This is the most emotionally intensive game I have ever played. I am about four hours in and something just happened that made my jaw drop.

    Elle is awesome.

And I absolutely agree. Me too!

One thing is for sure. I need to sloooooww down. Played for about 3 hours and have been kicking myself ever since. No joke. If I don't begin to play smarter and more realistic, I am going to force the probable GOTY to become a combat game which is CLEARLY NOT the (beautiful) intention of it.

Play smart, Heroes. Relax and think!

Anyway, this game has been stellar so far. I can't to dive in again later today.

However, every stealth game still gives you the ammo-out. You get caught, you just explode on enemies. I can't do that here and I admit it's a learning curve to actually get up on guys and punch them.

Making things more difficult is the lack of health aid. I thought it was bad enough in Max Payne 3, but it's worse here. Health is rarer than a dollar bill.

Anyway Im only just now going to start traveling with Elle. I haven't died or suffered massive damage in any way, but I can already tell that my regular video game strategy is getting thrown out the window or I won't last.

        Love it.

        Well said.

Last night, I had a really tough time adjusting. But that's on me, not the game.

It seemed like every strategy I wanted to use during stealth-or-combat situations had me standing out like the one guy that rocks the pink polo at a party.

Ideally, I wanted to avoid kills all together in at least two situations, but my archival stealth video game techniques were getting me nowhere.

This game really takes your habits off guard and forces you to think. Now my brain just needs to cooperate!

It really pays to think in this game and not just bullrush into a situation like we are so accustomed to doing in other games. It's a treat to see a game where thinking critically is actually rewarded and you don't have to unload a clip to get out of a dangerous situation. Resource preservation is important in this game, more so than any survival game I've played. The replayability is also high because there are so many different ways to get past a level or room. For Instance:

That's why this game is really engaging and fun, so many ways to get out of a situtation. And the clickers are scary. To use a shiv or not to use a shiv? That is the question.

Played a bit more this morning and health actually seems to be around more than I figured it would be. However, thus far I've been able to get through without taking too much damage. I've left a lot of health behind.

I'm thinking this isn't going to always be the case as a lot of this appears to be tutorial.

I did learn the hard way that taking on a Clicker head-on is not a good idea. At all.

Disappointed in the game. I was hoping to send my PS3 off with a bang.

Definitely well made and interested to see what ND does for the next gen.

CMH, you playing on hard? Even on hard i can scavange health snacks but its not much. Towards the middle of the game it is harder to make a decision on what you'd like to craft since it takes parts from other things.

Agree on Uncharted 4. There is a certain linear/rails/hand holding Naughty Dog does, but hopefully the next gen will allow them to open it up a little.
