    THQ possibly done

    No one mentioned this yet?

Kevin Dent, a games industry veteran, tweeted late yesterday that THQ had canceled an MMO it was developing under license from The Games Workshop, meaning Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium Online (pictured above). Dent went on to say that the publisher had also canceled all projects due for release in 2014 and was in the process of returning intellectual property to their licensors.

The purpose, Dent alleges, is to ready THQ for sale. "I am hearing everything (in 2014 is canceled), they need to preserve cash," he said. Dent noted THQ's stock price is around 66 cents; it was about $6 this time last year.

The last time I bought a THQ game, the WWE was still called the WWF (No Mercy on the N64).

      Definitely won't miss these guys.

Rumor is EA is the front runner in buying that company. Which of course means Dana White and Vince McMahon will do ever thing in their power that their companies license don't transfer over to EA, since both of them hate EA with a passion.

Yeah I never heard that about Vince but Dana on the other hand, he hates EA. I'm hoping for the new EA MMA game with the UFC license, Dana might not want to do business with EA but money talks.

Because like Dana, Vince tried to get EA to make a WWE game many years ago, but EA told him no, wrestling game wouldn't sell well.

              But who knows......money talks

True they did.........However you have to remember WCW games was made by THQ at first. When WWF left Acclaim, their 1st choice was EA Sports, EA told Vince no, then turned around and made WCW Mayhem after WCW left THQ.

That right there, pissed Vince off.

When I think THQ, I think of all the awesome N64 wrestling games. EA will slay another competitor, and gain its abilities. Just like Megman.

                      Re: THQ possibly done

I can pretty much tell you that if THQ is sold, that the UFC and WWE licenses will go back up for grabs.

THQ, if they close, would most likely become like Midway ,their properites up for grabs and companies would pick them up. Obviously Saint's Row and Darksiders would be two of the bigger titles people would want. Like I said, WWE/UFC would be back on the market just like any exclusive sports license would be. I have no clue what that would mean though for the engines for each game and stuff like that.

Reading twitter is depressing though, vultures posting wanting to be right about thousands of people losing their jobs.

THQ Says it has "Not Cancelled" its 2014 Lineup

THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO. As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. As we have previously announced, we have dramatically reduced our commitment to the kids' boxed games sector which leads to a significantly more focused release schedule moving forward. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.

When it comes to industry gossip, posts are always like that. I never got actively wanting a studio to close, unless there was some egregious offense. For me, it was a sad day when Free Radical closed.
