    Super MNC

Super Monday Night Combat beta is available on Steam. Its a MOBA game like League of Legends but the gameplay is third person shooter rather than rts like.

Its fun and once you learn the controls it plays quite well. The community is surprisingly non hostile unlike other games in the moba genre where learning the game is the best way in recorded internet history to suffer verbal abuse. Ive actually gotten more friendly tips in post game chat than anything. Although my problems are more eye hand and map knowledge related since I understand moba strategy to a decent extent already, so I think people see I am trying to fulfill my role on the team; failing to do so is what inspires the most rage.

Its free now and they seem committed to avoiding pay-to-win, which most games in the genre do well now. Id recommend checking it out now especially while the aforementioned community tolerance is in place.

    Re: Super MNC

I've been in the beta for a few weeks now, but only played it a few times. Played a couple matches the past 2 days once it went out for the public. At first I was thrown off by the changes the made to the original by making it play more like a MOBA, but I've gotten used to it and am enjoying it now.

You definitely have to switch up your playstyle from the original MNC though unless you want to constantly die and put your team in a hole. You need to move with your team and your creep like other MOBA's or else you'll get slaughtered.

Combat Girl is ridiculously OP. I've used her in 3 matches so far and have gone a combined 27 kills/2 deaths/50 assists. Just keep throwing those kitty turrets everywhere.

        It's a shame there's no Xbox 360 version planned.

I've had a beta key for a while, but the game is too powerful to run on my old PC.

Microsoft's restrictions on developers is the reason why MNC's sequel is PC-only, despite the fact that the original MNC is the 30th all-time best-seller on Xbox Live Arcade.

I don't think any free-to-play game will be coming to XBLA anytime soon. Microsoft already doesn't let many devs release free DLC. Valve had to charge for DLC on TF2 and Left 4 Dead when it was free on the PC.

              Re: Super MNC

MOBA is some acronym but the game play consists of opposing teams which have a base of some sort, defended by a series of towers organized into lanes. AI controlled robots usually called creeps are autogenerated and march down the lanes singlemindedly battling the towers or enemy creeps. Team members control heroes whose job it is to suuport the creeps in damaging the enemy or fending off the enemy creeps and heroes. So far what I've described can be thought of like the Warcraft rts games, but with all base management handled automatically with timers.

Individual flavors within the genre vary hero play to feel like an action rpg or an mmorpg (not persistent, just clickable powers on timers) or SMNC which is a shooter. Rpg style unlockable powers and stuff are bought during the flow of play with credits earned by gameplay deeds. Ultimately your team prevails in one lane, penetrates the enemy base and knocks down its hitpoints while holding off the enemy in the other lanes.

Its a fun frantic genre, many versions of which are in the free to play arena. Theres also a good one with solid AI that can be a good single player training ground for the genre called Demigod. So far Ive found smnc to have a mistake tolerant community, but other games (otherwise highly recommendable) such as League of Legends, are notorious for having very harsh, newbie-hostile atmospheres.
