Thinking about buying a X-Box but know little about the system
I have a GC and I had a PS2 til it broke. I love the GC but no online gaming and it lacks a few sports games that I want. I was thinking about a x-box but it seems like there are a ton of hidden costs to owning the system. First, dont you have to buy a special adapter to get X-box Live. Isnt there a monthly fee to have X-Box Live. Do you have to buy another add on to watch DVD's. It sounds like alot of money when Sony gives you the same stuff for free. One more question does the system hold up like the GC or does it suck like the PS2. Thanks in advance.Tags: None -

Hidden costs? You do have to buy a remote to play DVD's. Microsoft did this to get around the DVD fee. Not a big deal as you most PS2 owners buy a remote instead of using the gamepad. No special adapter to play online as it is built in on the Xbox. Sony is the one charging you for the internet adapter. You can buy a yearly subscription which includes Mechassault and the headset for $69.99.

Online gaming may be free now on the PS2 but that wont last forever.
And no memory cards as you have a hard drive so that would be one less item you have to worry about. The Xbox lasted me alot longer then the PS2 and I have worn a few PS2's. Most of the problems with the Xbox came from the launch Xboxes and certain DVD drives.

Thanks Brent, so I need to buy X-Box Live for 69.99 just to download rosters on any game or is that only for microsoft games.

Xbox Live is use more for playing against others, downloading extra content for games but can also be used for downloading rosters for professional games from any game that has that feature.
If you are only wanting to download rosters you do not even need Xbox Live. If all you want to do is roster downloading you can get an Action Replay and eliminate Xbox Live alltogether.

$39.99 and while it is okay for people who like to get cheat codes and levels. This thing is gold for a sports gamer. If you play college games no more sending off a memeory card for files. This one includes a mempory card where you dock to the PC via a USB and download/upload these files. Remove the memory card and insert it in the controller to copy to the Xbox Hard Drive.

Re: Thinking about buying a X-Box but know little about the system
My PS2 broke in the summer and i wasnt so sure if i would like the Xbox but i was so wrong i thought the controller was too big but my xbox came with the new smaller controller which is like a miracle worker. Another cool thing about the Xbox is the custom soundtracks, the hard drive is a lot better IMO because i hated all those memory cards. I have yet to buy Xbox live but i know i will soon, and the graphics are much better than PS2, IMO the Xbox is way better than the PS2. Good luck on choosing a new console.

Re: Thinking about buying a X-Box but know little about the system
Hmm, I think I may make the purchase. I almost bought anthoer PS2 but the fact that thing broke makes me mad 250.00 bucks down the drain. I owned a X-Box when it 1st came out and hatted the cont. but I heard the new S-Controler is better then that big thing. I sold the X-box only after two weeks and picked up the cube. Love the cube but no college hoops and maybe no baseball are causing to look towards the box. 170 seems to be the price maybe I will go to circuit city in case of a price drop. Hey thanks for your help. Is the AR thing easy to use for a dumb *** like me or should I get Live, never did online gaming because can't schd. my life around playing in a league just want to play when I feel like it.Comment
