Plus since it's on the PS3 he'd be stuck with a whole bunch of ugly.

Far as Chrono Trigger looking dated...

Those are both available for the DS, correct? I've been toying with the idea of picking up a DSi or 3D (had DSLite). And, from what Goh's saying, I can find the games in the PS Store as well?

@H&V: I'm having a blast with The Show. I actually changed up my Franchise as I went with the Blue Jays. Since I follow 2 NL teams in real life very closely (Mets, Rockies) it can be tough playing with them in The Show as I'm too invested in the players. With the Blue Jays, I have no investment in the players, so I can make moves if I feel like it and don't care about lineup accuracy and whatnot. Plus, playing in the AL East figures to be an extreme challenge.

I am just looking at expanding my non-sports gaming library and as I stated, just want to give the RPG genre a try to see if I like it.

Trigger definitely is on DS. Not sure about FF6. In fact, DS Chrono Trigger has some extra gameplay content that the original didn't, so you might want to get it on there if you've got a choice.

But yes, both are on the PSN store, as PSOne Classics - though they are both SNES games, they were re-released on the original Playstation.

Played AA and loved it and am getting ready to pick up AC GOTY Edition. I wouldn't call those games RPG's, though.

              DJ,

Thanks for the baseball update. I love TOR! I'd franchise with them in a heartbeat if I had more free time. Romero, Marrow, etc. Great choice.

              Back on topic...

I absolutely had a love affair with Mass Effect 2 last year. I invested 60 hours into that thing while waiting for MLB 11. I never played the first one (no XBOX), so I made sure to follow very closely the comic book style "choices/interactive story update" thing packaged onto the PS3 version and felt so remarkably close to the story considering. It was a beautiful sight to behold, that game.

You know me. I have a poor IQ gaming-wise for anything non-baseball. Very few titles not called MLB The Show interest me. And even the ones that do are hard for me to grasp (managing inventory, upgrades, etc).

So I put ME2 on the easiest difficulty and rolled. I cannot recommed this game enough.

Masterpiece in every sense of the word. Bleeping brilliant and easy for a newcomer like me to get the hang of.

The man wants a game with a good story where it's not easy to get lost or figure out what to do and isn't heavy on customization. Thus ruling out the likes of TES,Fallout or any other open world RPG.

Someone said Chrono Trigger looks dated. So I took a pic from Chrono Trigger to show it looks better than a current gen game.

                It shouldn't be confusing.

Re: RPG newcomer, what would you recommend?

FFVII-X are all pretty damn good and I'd personally recommend all of them. Like people mentioned above, some of the protagonists can get whiny and full of angst (especially Zidane in FFIX! I hated that little douche for most of the 3rd/4th disc lol) but don't let that deter you from getting into the series. Like mentioned before, FFX is VERY user friendly. Lots of tutorials. But if you wanted to go another direction until the HD reboot of that game, XIII and IX have pretty extensive tutorials of their own when the game starts and whenever new things come up.

Now, Kingdom Hearts is one of my all time favorite games, so that one comes at a very high recommendation from me as well. Very fun gameplay, and the story in both games (KH 1 and 2) is very solid. I loved every second of it.

                  Hope that helps!

Good deal. I'll add Kingdom Hearts and FFX to my cart over at Gamestop.com, which is running a Buy 2, Get 1 free deal. I'll probably throw in WWE's Smackdown Here Comes The Pain just b/c I want that game back in the library.

I'll definitely be looking to pick up Chrono Trigger as well. I've read some real good things on that game. Just trying to decide if I want to get another DS (if I do, I'll go with the cheapest new model) or just buy it on the PSStore.

FFVII and FFIX would be solid, I love FFVIII but it's not for most. Also Kingdom Hearts was fun and the first two games had a certain girl as the voice over for Kairi, so that was cool too.

Dead Rising 2. Action RPG that's pretty simple. Fairly high replay value as there are multiple endings and leveling is a blast as you get stronger but its done for you.

That sounds like my kind of game. Leveling manually in some of those games looks intimidating.

Not being able to handle a first-person perspective hurts you as it means you miss out on some great games like Deus Ex Human Revolution.

But, The Witcher 2 is a great game that you would have fun with.

Not for a new person. It's confusing enough now for people that have been playing for years.
