Is there something wrong with the lens in the PS2? Any help with this problem is appreciated.

I haven't tried this myself, but you might want to take a look at this:

www.techtv.com/xplay - Search for "fix PS2" - then click on "PlayStation 2 Disc Read Error Fix".

Yeah, it's got me scared because I have Smackdown. I haven't noticed anything yet, but people are saying that it makes a loud clicking noise and then stops working.

I've also read that if you have a disk reading problem, the screw on the laser might just be loose. A lot of people have said that just tightening that screw has solved their problems.

Trying buying a disc cleaner. I've had the same problems where my PS2 was not reading Any game and I thought I would have to buy a new one too and I do Not have smackdown. If you've had your PS2 for a while, then the laser is going out or getting dirty. Bought a cleaner and got it working again. You might want to try that 1st b/c it only costs about $10 bucks vs $179 for a new PS2.

                  Good luck.

My PS2 was coming up with "disc read error" and I had no idea how to fix it. So, I came on here and searched for a solution and I ran across your post. I went to the site you recommended and followed their instructions and now my PS2 works like a champ. I just wanted to send you a huge thank you because your help saved me from spending $200 on another PS2

Your exact problem occured with my PS2. The wierd thing was that it happened exactly one year to the day of purchase. (One year warranty done) I tried everything from buying different lense cleaners to placing it in its vertical position. Nothing worked. I called Sony and they said I would have to pay to get it fixed. Ultimately I went out and had to buy a new PS2. Good luck.
