It had more substance. In SR3 I felt like things were just happening for ****s and giggles. The factions you were up against was just one giant faction that didnt really have a reason to do what they were doing, or maybe it all just flew over my head. The characters from previous titles more or less transformed into new characters so that didnt help with familiarity.
In SR1 and 2 I felt way more connected to my own character and the allies he had as well as having and actual dislike to the antagonists. In SR3 it just wasnt the same.
The over the top aspect of SR doesnt bother me, its just that theres nothing there that is gripping to me.
