The game itself was playing quite well. (last night was showing one red bar, and high packet loss in and out)

It really seems to me that packet loss numbers are where it's at for severe lag?

Then quit and went to a Team Deathmatch server and that was a two green bar out of three strength with similar numbers as above on the other stuff. Again, a good experience...and got my first TDM win ribbon lol.

I will try this a little more today. It's so hard to know how much my problems are Dice/EA servers, or my slow 'net. MOST of the time I have played with you guys, I experience lag at the same time as you do on the same maps. When no lag is present, I'm fine. Game play is good even with my 'net speed being what it is.

Last night though, how was it for you guys? Especially at Rogue Transmission when I was in briefly? That was BRUTAL, immovable, paralyzing **** for me, then I had to quit out.
Idk if I have a bad router or not but connecting my ps4 directly to the modem increased my download and upload speeds a good bit. I was wired to the router previously btw.

BF4 seemed to clear up today...same performance through both configurations for me. I was paranoid to join the party chat because I was afraid that might unravel my performance lol.

This is my first fps in years. Not sure I should keep this game as I really suck. Every time I turn a corner I get absolutely blitzed. Anyone have any pointers?

              Re: Battlefield 4

I can give a bunch of specific tips but general tips mostly consist of the same things, keep aware of your surroundings, be a team player, use your class strengths ect.

If you want some more specific ideas:

-If your cannot control a weapon with a heavy barrel you should drop to the next lower ROF gun in line. The extra range from low spread is significantly more worthwhile than a higher ROF.
-Don't try and launch the UCAV without having a known target beforehand, it moves too fast and last too short an amount of time to search for a target.
-DO NOT run a carbine on assault you are giving up the only real reason the use the class over more versatile classes like engineer.
-The MAV can kill explosives and is an excellent troll device. M2 slam traps can be used with great efficiency.
-The stationary weapons on most maps are underutilized, the .50 has absurd damage and range and often can make inexperienced choppers flee. The TOW missile is powerful and can lock on as well, this can be an assaults best friend as they lack AV capabilities. Don't think you're invincible though, you will be a target so use it smartly (Javelins can lock on for instant death).
-Laser designators can lock on to equipment, normally this would be useless but a sniper near his radio beacon can be blown up by guided weapons. This is both satisfying and hilarious.
-The CZ-75 is a model of constancy, it's 4HK range is enormous for a handgun, if you're looking for something that has a good feel and damage it's a great choice.
-Flashbangs do a small among of damage and restore from ammo boxes very quickly, they can be spammed during a flag or rush assault very effectively.
-The airburst works by first pointing and ADS where the cover of the enemy is, then pointing it up or to the left/right of that cover to make the projectile explode behind the cover and hit the enemy.
-Not only which side, but also the angle under which you shoot a SMAW/ RPG at a vehicle has influence on how much damage it does. 90 degrees is better than at an angle.

Those are good tips, but man for someone who hasn't played a FPS in years...that might be overkill

If you are on PS4, just friend a bunch of OS folks, get on the mic, and follow their lead. If you are on xbox one, we are harder to find but either way, look for a squad (press start during the game and go to team setup) that is almost full (4/5) and not full of snipers. Try to form a group with them and just follow them around.

Also learn how to heal, revive (both assault), repair (engineer), and hand out ammo (support). Make yourself useful to your squad and team since you are going to essentially be dead weight while you learn. I helped my team win - not by kills...but repairing a Fast Attack Craft (large boat) for the majority of the match. Our team won, and the driver went 34-1.

Sorry as I said, I'm not very good at giving general tips as a long time FPS veteran. It's been so long since I was a real noob a at major multiplayer FPS, everything basic is second nature.

Question about carrier assault - do you have to do the conquest part (capture missile points) THEN the rush part (blow up mcoms), or can you choose to do each one independently (arm mcoms without capturing missle points / capture missile points without arming mcoms)?

Basically I'm asking do you have to do both conquest & rush or can you just focus on one?

You have to get the points first then arm the mcoms.

Excellent breakdown, after watching it I'm kinda disappointed that Dice didn't implement features like escaping the carrier or blowing up actual strategic points on the carrier. Either way I'll probably end up playing the crap out of this mode.

That video is the source of my confusion. He says you need to capture points first then arm the mcoms.....but you don't have to arm mcoms in order to win.... Then later says if all you want to do is defend mcoms you can just guard the ship.... but if the other team never launches enough missiles, then they can't arm your mcom....and guarding them seems pointless....

I was good until i watched that video.

Mcoms only appear once you get their ship health down. The ship gets a second health bar, but now not only do they have to worry about capturing those conquest points to defend the ship, they cannot allow the opposing team to arm the mcom. If that team can't get the mcoms, they can still win just by holding onto the conquest points and letting the surface missiles destroy the ship.

Hopefully both teams are competent and it just gets into a hectic battle of who goes down first.

                              Battlefield 4

Battlelog is getting a whole buncha updated in the next 2 weeks

Battlelog is a free social platform that ties into Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 3 and lets you socialize, track stats, plan your next game, and more from your web browser!

                              Hi everyone

I thought I'd give you just a sneak peek at some of the next Battlelog updates. There's a lot more happening, but these are some of the highlights I want to share with you today.

                              MARCH 25TH UPDATE

On Tuesday the 25th of March, alongside the release of Naval Strike for Premium members, you will see a brand new background image on Battlelog. Not only is it beautiful as an image; it's also a background video, and with the nice soothing waves, it has an incredible impact on the Battlelog experience.

                              Naval Strike Background [eaassets-a.akamaihd.net]

We’re also introducing a lot of new features for the mobile app. First, we are now introducing Privacy settings in the mobile app, so you can see and edit your settings, such as invisible mode/presence, whether you have friend requests turned on or off, and different sharing levels for e.g. your stats.

Privacy Settings in the mobile app [eaassets-a.akamaihd.net]

It will now also be possible to look at all your unlocked and locked soldier portraits in the app, and select a new soldier portrait to be displayed.

Soldier Portraits in the mobile app [eaassets-a.akamaihd.net]

We are also working a lot on adding emblems to the mobile Battlelog experience. While it won’t be in the next release, expect to see the emblem editor on mobile sometime in the future, but in the next release, we will add the possibility to look at your emblem gallery and easily set a new active emblem.

Emblem gallery in the mobile app [eaassets-a.akamaihd.net]

And last, but certainly not least: we are adding Battlepacks to mobile! In this first version, you will be able to see all the previously opened Battlepacks, view those you have yet to open, and of course be able to open them. We feel this is a great addition, so you can check out new Battlepacks on the run and open them wherever you are.

                              Battlepacks in the mobile app

So a ton of great stuff coming with the release on Tuesday, alongside a lot of various fixes and improvements (we’ll post a full changelog on the day of the release). But there is a chance that our release after that – on April 8th – will be even better!

                              APRIL 8TH UPDATE

While changes may still occur, we are looking at two major additions to Battlelog.

                              1) Platoons

Platoons will receive its first significant update (internally we call it Platoons v1.1), where the primary goal is to make it easier for Platoon members to play together. There’s a couple of things we’re adding to Platoons, but the most significant will without doubt be the ability to see where your Platoon members are playing right now!

On the Platoons home page, you will see a small notice bar when Platoon members are playing (e.g. “4 members are playing”), and clicking that will take you to the new Servers tab, where you will see all the servers your fellow Platoon members are playing on, of course grouped and sorted so the server with the most Platoon members on it is shown in the top.

                              Platoon Servers tab [eaassets-a.akamaihd.net]

                              2) Loadout Presets

It’s finally happening! The feature has been under a few revisions since we first talked about it in January, but we now hope to release it on April 8th. In this version, you will be able to save presets for your kits and vehicles in a very simple way; just click the dropdown, choose a few slot and give it a name. Once applied, your kit or vehicle will be take the name of your preset! And you do the same to apply a preset; just click to see the dropdown and select a used slot to apply that preset.

                              Loadout Kit Presets [eaassets-a.akamaihd.net]

If you want a better overview of all the presets you have created, and perhaps clean them up a bit after a while, you just go to the Presets Management page, where you can browse through them all, delete them, or apply a bunch of them before you save your Loadout.

                              Loadout Preset Management [eaassets-a.akamaihd.net]

Do not that Loadout Presets will only be available on Battlelog in Battlefield 4, and not be reflected in-game. You basically apply presets to your one Loadout, which then follows you in-game when you save it. It is also our goal to allow you to view and apply presets in the mobile app, but you will need to use Battlelog in the browser to create new presets.

Well, that was a sneak peek at some of the things we have in store. We hope it’s something you’ll look forward to, and we can’t wait to hear what you think once we have released it.

As always, remember that things are still subject to change.

                              Regards,
                              TheBikingViking
