I finished it up last night. Reviews are embargoed until Monday so I can't say much, but I think your description sums it up quite well.

I have to say I'm surprised there isn't more buzz on here surrounding this game.

OK, it's short and it had me wanting to throw my controller through my TV a couple of times, but it's still one of the more enjoyable XBLA games I've played. And the ending? Didn't see that coming.

Hopefully Deadlight doesn't go unnoticed because I love games like this, Shadow Complex, Limbo, etc.

There aren't many action games in this particular mold to begin with these days, so those with fond memories of Deadlight's spiritual predecessors will likely have a reasonably fulfilling few hours here. Without an existing sense of nostalgia for the source material, though, you may find Deadlight's minor flaws collectively outweigh all the things it does right. It's one of those cases where Xbox Live Arcade's requirement to offer a free demo with every game is especially valuable.
                Polygon (7/10)

Deadlight proves that a story doesn't need an original premise to work. In the midst of a sort of second renaissance of zombie games and movies — thanks largely to The Walking Dead — new developer Tequila Works has taken the very core of the zombie story idea and polished the everloving hell out of its presentation.

That polish doesn't extend to all of the game. Deadlight sometimes buckles under the weight of its own mechanical stumbles, and it struggles to communicate with the player beyond repeated death and frustration. But Deadlight's ambition and strong direction make for something interesting.

                ...

While Deadlight makes a gamble hiding some of its biggest narrative successes behind collectible items, that risk pays off well enough to overlook some of its mechanical flaws. Tequila Works pushes the presentation and production values of the genre past where anyone could reasonably expect, and has a game that stands out because of it. If it were longer, it would suffer more, but the time investment required and the ultimate rewards Deadlight offers make it a standout for this year's Summer of Arcade.

Deadlight mixes Shadow Complex’s impressive 2.5D visuals, Limbo’s rewarding platforming puzzles, and The Walking Dead’s grim atmosphere. The resulting cocktail is potent.

                  They give it a 8/10.

Got this on sale the other day and like the old school feel to it. Reminds me of the original Prince Of Persia with zombies. The mechanics and game controls aren't always the best (sometimes you'll hit jump or roll and your guy just walks) and timing is key in this game. However, I like the story and the side scrolling view works with all the ways you have to figure out how to get from point A to B and sometimes C, D, E.....

Fun game and could have been really awesome if it had a little more QA invested into it.
