    Re: Rage Much?!?

The only game that ever made me rage was Guitar Hero. Was trying to get through Metallica's "One" on the toughest level for the hundreth time. Never could get through the solo at the end. So one night I broke the guitar handle completely in half. Just broke over my leg like some of those Pro basball players do with their wooden bats after they strike out. No other game has gotten me so steamed. Never replaced the guitar.

The most I ever do is say man, **** this, then toss the controller on the couch and move on.

I have pushed some friends to their limit though after a beatdown on NCAA or madden.

Man.......some of you all need some serious anger management classes. IF you doing that over a videogame, I would hate to see what you do when your wife or GF or your child does something to tick you off.

          Re: Rage Much?!?

I've never broken anything related to my gaming systems. I love them too much to hurt them. I usually just turn off the system is something crazy happens.

I did have a roomate in law school that would rage over our Madden league. One day I came home and I saw all this black plastic on the concrete steps outside our apartment. I went in and the blinds were torn up. I was like, "What the .... happened in here?" He said he was playing Madden and he lost on a pick 6 and he jerked the controller out of the PS2 and it got caught in the blinds so then he ripped it out of the blinds and took it out on the steps and just took the controller and kept swinging it by the cord until he busted the controller to pieces. It actually made me a little afraid of him if he was going to get that upset over a video game. I was much more cautious around him after that. It just seemed so stupid to me.

That's quite the absurd generalization. So because people get violently angry at videogames, they get violently angry towards family members?

I've broken a few controllers in my days out of anger, but would never lay a finger on my wife or children.

If someone is getting that angry over a game that they ostensibly play for fun, it would seem like that could carry over into other parts of life that have nothing to do with fun.

I would hope that most adults that play videogames for entertainment can seperate the two.

                Perhaps I expect too much.

I've never broken anything relating to my video game system or any personal possession around me at the time.

Sometimes I'll catch myself cursing more than usual. Normally when playing a sports game. Coaches yell at their players all the time, so I don't see it as a problem.

Sometimes you just have to cuss out your virtual athletes to get the most out of them.

I agree, if you're breaking things, you might want to learn how to control your anger.

You get a couple of cases where virtual reality carries over into the real world.

Scroll down a bit, there's a fair amount of incidents. Some of are insane. Some people just let it go to their head to much. You could almost say they become emotionally attached to a game in some cases.

There is one case where a dutch guy opened fire in a mall then killed himself. Obviously it was compared to MW2 in the mission where you kill innocent people in a airport. I don't like to say games influence people in bad ways, but in some cases it may do. Then again you could argue a person is too easily influenced.

I mainly just swear, even when I do it's just the odd F word or whatever.

                      Re: Rage Much?!?

I would say that raging out like I have has helped me see just how angry I can get. Personally I've never yelled or gotten THAT mad at another person BECAUSE of how I used to rage in video games.

It just showed me that anger can lead to a LOT of stupid things and I always clear my head or calm myself when I'm getting angry in "real life" so to speak.

And I'm sure for a lot of guys on here breaking controllers isn't some regular thing. It was probably a one or two time occurrence at most. In fact in video games this is the only place I'll allow myself to get to a boiling point.

Now the most I'll do for a game is swear and immediately turn it off.

yeah. thats the game. so frustrating. I never finished the game.
it got the best of me. haha. it was very addicting though.

I had a friend break one of my xbox controllers after about the 10th beatdown in a row on Madden 10 (?). Slammed it on my dorm room floor Freshman year

The most I do myself is yell at the TV or aggressively push the power button. Demon's Souls almost made me cry the first time I played through it though (F U Flamelurker).

You do realize that in quite a few of those cases any actual link to playing games was either inconclusive or turned out to be false. I have never broken anything game related, I did break a tv controller once watching sports, but that was when I was younger and a little more immature. I just don't see how breaking a game controller means that somebody is a violent individual or can't control their anger in other parts of their life, though. I have known several people who would get extremely mad playing games, but yet were the most laid back individuals when they weren't gaming.

Yeah, but you know the way it works. Kid does something violent, happens to play video games a lot, next thing you know some group is trying to ban the game.

It's not that I threw the controller at the wall like a football, I just tossed it out of my hands out of frustration/disappointment and it hit the concrete wall making the trigger buttons very slow to use.
